According to J.A.'s 4Runner history website, the 22R (by special order) was discontinued in 1991. Toyota 4Runner History

Overrated, and I have one. If you're going to leave it stock the IFS is better, and if you're going to lift and mod it you'll eventually be doing all the work you'd do to SAS a later truck anyway.
