CL Find - Need advice (Highlander decal?)

Hey all, I have been a member of the forum and looked around at things for years. Last Sunday, I totaled my 3rd gen so I have been on the hunt for my next 4Runner or possibly first Land Cruiser. I found this 3rd gen on CL and I was wondering what everyone else thought of it. Also, why does it have a Highlander decal? Thanks.

Looks a little bit like a scam. Nobody would sell that truck for that price, and not have it off the market in 15 minutes.

If it's real, then it's a total steal. Just be very careful not to believe a bunch of stories from the seller (moving out of country, need to sell immediately. My loss your gain! Kind of BS).

NEVER send them any money through wire transfer, money order, etc...

If it's legit, then that is an incredible find if not rusted out.

I think it's legit (if they arent stolen or title washing or something), if you google the phone # you can see his other ads, all the same parking lot.

Sweet! Thank you everyone. Does anybody know what is going on with the decal/pinstripe? Also, is the hood scoop purely aesthetics?

It could be a Highlander. The decal is aftermarket. Go see it in person & check for frame rot. If they want you to send money first it's a scam.

I'm not sure what to think about the mileage. The guy still hasn't gotten back to me yet anyhow.


By the way, I followed your "Jitters" build by the way from start to basically finish years ago. I loved that build and it is one of the reasons that I had cleared lights and almost did a satoshi grille mod myself. Thanks.

Wow! I didn't even notice. You guys are right. That's awesome. I wasn't even considering the e-locker as an option. I didn't think it'd have it since it wasn't a limited and it was apparently a Highlander SR5. Is this a bit rare? Haha.
 
Check the rear hatch locking mechanism - rusted. Common up here (Chi, too). Ask for pictures of the undercarriage, run the VIN on Toyota Owners and Toyota VIN Recall sites.
 
Check carfax for both vechicles. The 99 looks to good to be true for the price; actually both do. I paid 7k for an 02 with an air locker and leather but then again i live in CA. If you can get one with an elocker get it. It costs about 1200+ for arb airlocker unless u can do an elocker retrofit but both seem like extra work.
I like the dorado gold on the 01 though
