CL find with "Minor Mechanical" issue

"Just put a rebuilt short block in it, having trouble getting oil pressure to the timing pensioner, so this is a mechanics special will need minor work to get it running."

Any ideas what could be wrong? and is it really a minor fix?

If he overtorqued the timing cover or put a bolt in the wrong hole, it will pinch the tensioner and cause slap. But double or triple check the oil pressure itself before you pull the trigger.

If you're handy with a wrench it shouldn't be a hard fix. The 4runner seems to be in pretty good shape so maybe 3k isn't a bad price.

I could be wrong but I would think that the worst case fix is pulling the engine apart and having all the oil galleys flushed if they are all clogged up. The easiest fix would probably be replacing the tensioner and hardware for the timing chain.
