cladding on 3rd gen runners falling off. solution inside

hey guys well i noticed my runners lower cladding was falling off, so what was my first instinct? go to the local dealer for new clips. but seing how they didnt hold properly i gave up from frustration. but i came up with a solution. i went down to King bolt in Covina California. and came back with these...

M6 stud
washer
and nut

then i installed them in the lower cladding like this...

making what once looked like this...

look like this...

Hey, When you took off the door cladding, Did the door had a metal bracket bolted to it? Reason I'm asking, I just got a set of Limited fender flares for my 1997 4Runner SR5. Included with the flare's hardware, I got 4 rectagular metal brackets, according to the person who sold them to me, he thinks they go behind the door claddings bolted to the doors.
