Clanging from underneath near the fuel tank.

Whenever the truck bounces (either by me pushing down on the rear bumper, or while driving), I hear a clanging coming from the vicinity of the driver's side rear shock, or near the fuel tank.

Can't pinpoint where though??

It's a 2003 w/113K miles, everything original except tires.

The truck tends to bounce up & down going over bumps as well, I'm figuring shocks?

Could it be on the passenger side instead? There are some heat shields for the exhaust over there, and some people have posted in the past about those making noise.

I've always learned that if your vehicle bounces more than twice, it's time to change your shocks/struts.

My heat shields fell off. They hit the drive shaft and were getting banged up as they hit the shaft going down the street. The dealer replaced them under the extended warranty. Take a look and see if one is loose.

It's not the heat shield, I got up under the truck and would grab the frame & pull down getting the suspension to compress. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere up in the strut area. Maybe a linkage?
Would the strut be making that clanging?

Check and see if your swaybar links are inline and straight! If not they can ge bound up and make a clunking sound when the suspension compresses!

Shocks

I am having the same issues and I think mine is the strut. Today or tomorrow I am going to pull the bottom of the shock off and bounce the truck and see if the noise is still there. Do you have the xreas? I don't know much about the system but wonder how this may affect the front strut a well.
