That would be cool with me - always room for one more if you want to go as naviguesser (Coast Guard Quartermaster talk...hehe!). I'll have plenty of room, and can bring extra gear to support two. If you don't mind riding with a crotchety old Radioman Chief. By the way - are you out of Airsta Houston?

I was AIRSTA Houston in my previous life as an AMT1. I'm at Sector Houston now as an O3E. I think between your time and my time in with Polar Operations and Deepwater Horizon we could fill the Honey Badger up with some Sea Stories.
Let me do some looking and see what I could come up with. I can't commit right now so don't hold off on asking your local guys. Worse case, I might just drive on out to Moab without a rig and run picture and video support.

Roger on the sea stories! Could make for some interesting tales around the camp site.
Like I said - it's 50/50 right now if I can go or not. However if anyone else from my club goes - it will be in their own rigs. One of the guys (names Rich / Rubicon) would probably jump at the chance to head out west again. I will be driving solo so picking you up as navigator/camera man would not be a problem.
Keep me posted - got enough leave saved up?

well I'm about half done with building one rock slider and I'm hopefully installing a 2" body lift next week because it sits too low on the frame for me to feel good about mounting the sliders.

How else will I fit the inevitable 3.4? or build my crossover delete. or fit my sliders without some funky welding.

Count me in... In 2014. ill be out for college and if all goes as planned ill be in and out of SoCal so ill definitely have to sneak out for a Moab trip. Then it won't be a 24 hr drive and ill be making enough big boy money with ROTC to really put some elbow grease into the runner

What? Dude, we need to get together. I'm still not sold that your pipe sliders are going to hold up, but there's no need to install a body lift to run sliders.

Kevin, what are they not going to hold up to? I've put the internally welded seam on the inside of the bends and it's just about 1-3/4" diameter .140 wall pipe. And I don't want to need them either.

Yeah, the operative word there is seam. HREW and DOM don't have seams, and guys that flog their trucks still break them and bend them up into the bodywork. I'm no stuctural materials engineer, but I just don't think they're up to the task of supporting the weight of your truck landing on them. Tell you what, start up a thread over on the club forum and we'll chat, because there's a couple guys over there that ARE structural engineers and can do a materials analysis for you.

Yup, it is virtually the same size engine on the same block. Really, the 3.4 is an upgraded version of the 3.0 or what the 3.0 should have been if they had designed it better in the first place. If you are thinking about running headers, you might want a small body lift for some extra room, but even then it is not necessary. These vehicles are top heavy already. Body lift just makes it worse. Depending on where we wheel in Moab, things can get a bit tipsy (experience talking). Wider is better, but lifting the body......not so much.

just thinking about the body lift situation again... if we're concerned about getting tipsy, why does it matter if I have a suspension lift instead? One raises the entire vehicle, one just makes it taller. Seems like the center of gravity doesn't go up as much as with a suspension lift.

That particular fight has been going on since the second guy that tried to make room for bigger tires
.A suspension lift does raise your COG higher than a body lift of the same amount, but theoretically gives you more suspension travel which some feel makes it worth it. The body lift doesn't do as much damage to your COG, but puts added stresses on the body mounts and doesn't do anything for you in terms of articulation. They've each got their plusses and minuses - my personal opinion is I'd rather not lift the body if I can help it. In your case, you don't need one and wouldn't really gain anything by installing it, so I'd skip it for now.
