I rented one of those carpet cleaners from home depot or your local grocery store. I took the whole carpet out of the car, then cleaned it using that household carpet cleaner. It cleaned it very well. It will cost you about 25 dollars after you pay for the rental and the soap that you have to use with it.

We have a household carpet cleaner since we have rugs, and it has an attachment you can use on stairs and whatnot, that works so well for interiors. I forget what kind of machine it is but I imagine any would be good. I know they make smaller ones that aren't like a full-size vacuum also. My rugs were horrible in my 4runner, but I got em nice and clean before dropping my weathertech liners in.

I use Glass Cleaner with ammonia. Saturate the carpet, get out a stiff brush and work over the trouble spots. Fire up the air compressor and use 120psi air to blow all the dust and dirt out of the carpet. I have brought carpets back from the dead using this method. I got a 3 year old coffee stain out of my FIL's Nissan. It was baaad too and everyone told me there was not any way to get it out.

Interesting I'll try it

Reminds me when I worked in a detail shop about 40 years ago - tried to clean black carpet that was embedded solid with dirt etc. - car was POS anyway so we spray dyed the carpet and the dirt - looked good, until car left lot anyway!
