Rent a Rug Doctor with the attachments for $30 plus cleaning solution. Use hot water.

Little Green Machine works great. Use hot water and away you go. Just handy to have one around too.

Just did it last night myself. Followed the directions in a utube video from an auto detailer. Basically, mix up your favorite degreaser (purple power, simply green, etc) in a spray bottle. Use the shop vac for a good cleaning prior using the product. Spray the degreaser onto the carpet in the stained areas and scrub with a brush until suds become dirty looking. Vacuum out degreaser with shop vac. Repeat if first treatment doesn't achieve desired results.

Greasy looking stuff came out quickly. The ground in dirt areas were more stubborn and required a 2nd treatment. Mine came out really well with not much time invested. If you don't own a carpet cleaner like those referenced earlier this is a viable option.

Also, the degreaser works on chewing gum removal which was also addressed in the video. I had 2 spots of gum and they came right up. Spray the gum spot heavily with the degreaser. Use a flat razor blade and drag it backwards across the gum - not sure why the razor blade was used as you don't cut with the blade? Maybe a putty knife would work just as well? After the gum is removed from the top of the carpet I used a finger nail to mine the pieces out that were ground down between the fibers as I didn't want to risk removing carpet fibers with the razor blade.

FOLEX - this wouldn't be for general cleaning but for getting out specific stains during process. I first read about it on a thread here from years ago but that stuff is amazing. You spray the stain, rub it in violently with fingers, then blot/soak it out with a towel and the stain transfers with the liquid to the towel. So far it's gotten out Georgia red clay, two year old dog vomit that had already been attempted, and some unknown black tar-like stain that wouldn't cooperate previously. Great stuff and like $5 at Home Depot for a big bottle.

We/he used the Green Machine and this homemade carpet cleaner in my son's Tacoma for the carpet and upholstery. You get Awesome Cleaner at Dollar General for about $1. We had the rest of the ingredients on hand. It cleaned the already cleaned and "detailed" truck very well. A lot of stuff came out of the carpet. It smells terrific. Well, if you like clean laundry.

I had several stains in my carpet. So I just ended up ripping it up and scrubbing with some soap and water then pressure washed it. I got most of all the crap and stains out. Then I left it out in the sun to sun bleach that didn't come out. Worked pretty dang great! Wished I had taken pictures to show everyone....

And I was able to salvage about $3 that was hiding underneath!

Thanks, I was also looking for cleaning suggestions. I ended up buying a Bissell handheld carpet cleaner, it is easy to use and cleans the carpets perfectly. I read complete details from this list of the best rated pet carpet cleaners and made my decision. Highly recommended.

I used a Wet-Vac to clean my seats. I had a water bottle with a hole in the cap and used a diluted Simple Green mixture, held the bottle in one hand and doused the area while I vacuumed with the other hand. Worked surprisingly well. I tried topical stuff like Tuff Stuff but it did barely anything to pull the deep dirt. It was pretty disgusting what I was able to pull out of that interior... Just make sure you do it on a nice sunny day so that you can let the car air out.

Cleaning

The best method of cleaning carpets is usually steam cleaning, which removes over 90% of dirt and bacteria from carpeting. Dry cleaning carpeting is also effective for ensuring carpets are ready for foot traffic as quickly as possible. Top Best Vacuum Detergent solution: Mix one teaspoon of translucent liquid dishwashing detergents, such as Dawn or Joy, into 1 cup of lukewarm water. Vinegar solution: Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar with ¼ cup of water. Ammonia solution: Mix one tablespoon of clear household ammonia with ½ cup of lukewarm water.

Rent a commercial grade steam cleaner with attachments. On two vehicles I removed the seats and trim pieces to finally remove the carpet from the vehicle. Steam clean then air dry.
