Clear bra...

What are your guys' thoughts on these things...

At the advice of some buddies at work I have decided to bite the bullet and clear bra the front of my Runner. These fellas have done it on a lot of their vehicles and swear by it. I have never bothered on my other cars...

As you can tell I have no plans on going into the bush with my Runner She will just be for doggy hauling duty, trips, towing, etc...leisure stuff really...

Just curious if anyone on here has bothered to do it to their Runner...

I'd do it and spend the extra and do the mirrors and any other part that may be subject to debris.

I have it on my T4R and the wife has it on her Saaburu. Hood of both vehicles looks perfect (Saab has over 30k miles). I'll do it on the next vehicle for sure.

I agree with RonMaiden...do the whole kit with the mirror backs and door edge guards, it'll keep your vehicle looking much nicer.

Getting a good install is key so that the edges don't come up and collect dirt.

The product I am looking at is called Clear Shield. This and the 3M seem to be the better kits...Is yours the Clear Shield or the 3M product? Just curious...

Yes, I have the 3M product on my 4Runner. I think it's the 3M version on the Saab also, but that was a few years ago.

I have Venture Shield. I took it to the installers with only 50 miles on my 4R. I avoided highways and anything that could chip my front end before I got the clear shield on!

The dealer here sells both 3M and Venture Shield. He preferred Venture at bit over 3M. Recently heard 3M bought Venture anyway. I guess 3M was worried they made a better product!

I love mine. I paid about $800 to have all this clear shielded:

WHOLE front end: across the hood, first 8" of side fender (which kinda faces front), whole air dam, strip under headlights and across the top of the air scoop.

The roof between the windshield and sunroof.

The A-Pillars

The mirrors

Inside all the door handles. Keeps the wife's rings from scratching.

Around the door handle

8"-10" strip across the whole bottom of the rear liftgate (where we all grab to close the rear liftgate).

custom pieces along the top of the rear bumper to keep my golf clubs from scratching that area.

I was going to have my headlights done but they recommended NOT doing that cause of the heat build up and them yellowing from that.

I travel a ton on the highways and we all have seen many gravel and cement trucks dropping crap especially around bridges! My old jeep had 160k miles on it and it looked like the front end had taken several shotgun blasts to it. I vowed not to let that happen to my new 4R! Plus with the silver Toyotas, those chips show REALLY well since the primer coat is BLACK underneath! My wife's Highlander is silver and we didn't do the clear shield. So she has several black spots on her hood.

Wow, now that is coverage...I will probably do the majority of the front but not the roof area and A pillars and such...I think doing under the door handles is a good idea too...

If you are doing a lot of highway I guess it makes sense but for us we are not doing a tonne of highway driving so I think I will stick with the basic full frontal kit and hope for the best...

I see you have another love besides wrapping your Runner Nice bike...I have a 06 ZX-10R. I look forward to some day putting it on the track...thus far it has only been street for me...
