Clear coat or not ??!!

I just returned back from dealer and they couldn't identify the paint type!. They asked me to take the vehicle to body shop or paint shop for which I don't have time now.

So, I am going to assume that my black 2003 4R is clear coat!!!!!!!!!.

NO! Dark colors will absorb UV and heat and become noticably higher in temperatrure than light colors, while the aluminum flakes will actually reflect and maintain a lower temperature. A light metallic like your Dorado Gold will be on the "cooler" side.

Yes, While solid black and white are still extremely popular - most buyers like and want metallic and other effect finishes. Silver is the most popular automotive color and has been for the past several years (For many years white was the most popular).

Yes. Solid black will always be the "hottest". Heat temperature guns have registered black as being up to 25 deg F hotter than other colors! (The same holds even more so for asphalt vs. concrete road surfaces).

Sorry! With the probable exception of white, our Runners have basecoat/clearcoat topcoat systems (color basecoat and clearcoat).

Apparently you haven't read all of the messages here. All vehicles do not have a clearcoat. If so then how can you explain the paint transfer with some? Or perhaps why some companies would waste money creating products specifically for vehicles painted without a clearcoat?

I'm interested in the information you have that has led you to believe that all vehicles have a clear coat. Opposed to the in-depth post that Gromulous wrote which explains the opposite.

Every color except white is cleared on our runners. I'm very suprised to hear the white in NOT cleared, as i've never worked on a newer car in white that was NOT clear coated.

well I grew up around auto body work and every car I have ever seen sprayed has gotten clear shot on as well, so not sure about that other info but whatever you guys say

I too little confused on this whole subject. As I mentioned earlier my friend and myself bought IS300 (black) and ES300(white) in 2000. We both got confirmation from Lexus that IS300(black) is not clear coated and mine (white) is clear coated.

Now that we hear every color except white is clear coated. Can anyone please clarify this?.

THE TRUCK HAS CLEAR COAT!!!

So, given the above, I can confirm that BLACK 2003 LTD's DO have a CLEAR COAT.

Yup, I agree. Black definately has a clearcoat. I'm not getting any paint transfer when I buff this truck but I did when I buffed my black WRX (which did not have a clearcoat).

Is this an example of clear coat failure? Not sure what to do. Should I try Zaino? It’s only on one door. The rest of the car is fine.
