I know that many of you go offroading, and don't build these 4runners to be "mall crawlers", so I have a question regarding clicking noises coming from the front end....
I just came back from Hollisters and took the TR4 out there to have some fun. Well to start it off, I'll tell you a little about the truck.
2000 sr5 with elocker(4.3 gear) in the rear.
Front end has stock shocks, 99 10 coil springs, and yes a wack Daystar spacer (1in). Have to go budget (got them used for $20) until I get some coilovers.
Rear has FJ80 7.75 coil springs with FJCRUISER shocks. (WICKED FLEX)
Front end has new LBJ's, axles seem pretty good (no rips)
My issue is when we hit some black diamond trails, I noticed that the front end was making alot of popping/clicking noise all day in the front. I meeeeennnnnn BADDDDDD. Sounded like I had tin cans attached to my to my lower control arm banging on every thing.
And when the rear was fully compressed it made a sound like my driveshaft was hitting the gas tank (I broke my rear swaybar link, bushing ripped right off the bolt, seems to drive better without the rear swaybar attached to tell you the truth) Also there was clicking noises coming from the rear, but I think it was the swaybar link banging against the trail arm.
For the front end... Do you think the CV's are done?
Will the diff drop help a little?
How are the stock trail arms? Are upgrading them to a beefier tubing necessary? Have any of you bent one while wheeling?
All in all, MAN CAN THIS TR4 wheel. I've been into toyota's for quite some time and owned fj80's to 85runners and countless other IFS first gen's. For IFS, I can say that it wheeled pretty darn good for what it is.
