Clicking sound while decelerating?

That thought crossed my mind. Gonna bring it back to the shop because after the u joints were replaced I now get a vibration that starts at 20 and gets so bad I can't go above 75. Drive shaft out of balance? They said it can only go on one way but something is clearly wrong. I'll see if they can lube the rear while they are at it.
Time for a complete new driveshaft. The 2WD shaft has a rubber coupler that separates two concentric shafts. This wears out and causes the vibration (basically, the shaft starts bending in the middle). No amount of new u-joints or balancing will fix it.

Wow, thats a bummer! Well I just ordered a used one off a wrecked rig from ebay for 159 bucks and free shipping. Has 155K miles on it. Mine was original with 295K miles. If I can get another 150K miles out of this one I'd be ok with that! Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

If you didn't mark your shaft at the spline then yes it could be out of balance. The spline will go back in at any rotation, but they are balanced for a certain position. See if there are any paint marks that may help you to line it up (mine still has some from either the factory or a previous owner repair).

I replace my u-joints with moog parts and it clearly fixed my clicking issue, but now the clicking is back again, and my crankshaft seal is broken again, too. The 4runner came like that when i bought it. When i took the driveshaft off i marked it, but the markings didnt line up the same on my rear axle when i re-installed it. I actually took it on and off twice to try to get it on correct and it would'nt go back to the same spot on the rear both attempts. So, I threw it out of alignment by doing that? its weird, i dont see why it wouldn't line up the same as when i took it off.

I've never been able to rotate my driveshaft by hand while the vehicle is in neutral, so its not like the rear connection rotated on me. The 4runner came with 135,000 miles. I'm at 147,000 now

Also, I now have a new problem where my transmission is reluctant to shift into higher gear. My rpms will go up to 3-3500 before i finally shift. Making sure my tranny fluid is full helps, but a reluctance to shift is still noticeable with proper fluid levels

I'm having this same issue. Doesn't do it when my foot is on the gas but when I let off the gas and it's coasting I hear a constant clunking that changes with speed. I've greased my driveshaft well expect that there is no zerk for the rear u-joint. I assume it was replaced by the previous owner because I don't see a spot for a zerk. I assume it's probably that u-joint that is going bad. I'm going to take the driveshaft off once it's better weather and drive it in 4wd and see if it still does it.
