Climate control help

2000 sr5. My girlfriends car has an issue with the temperature knob (not digital). It is very tight and when turning to the extreme positions - either very cold or hot, the knob will be very tight and not quite get to the extreme position. I purchased a new climate control hoping it was the knob of the unit but looking at the new one, and now that I have opened up the dashboard it seems nearly impossible to install the new one - how do you get the cables off while in the dash? Suggestions or a write-up on this somewhere? Also do any of these cars have issues with the cables themselves? Maybe my issues is with the cable or with whatever the temperature control is connected to? How would I diagnose this?

If you pull off the center panel you can see the cable the temperature control knob is connected to. I don't think your problem is with the knob, but with the cable. Perhaps that cable got kinked somehow? The cable is also clipped into little plastic pieces along it's route to wherever it goes. You might be able to pull it out of one or two of the clips and adjust it back closer to the control knob which will allow you to get full range of the controls back.

Thanks! I was able to adjust it somewhat. It still doesnt have the full range, but at least it goes all the way to hot now - which is all she really needs now that winter is here. Thanks again.
