Climate Control Lights

Hello all,

So I have a climate control light that has been out for about 2 years now. I finally ordered a bunch of LED bulbs for the interior. I replaced the one that has been out and it still is not working. I checked the LED and it works fine in other areas. I find it odd that this one slot is not working.

I have a 99 with the analog controls. If looking at the unit the left side is the one not working. Anyone else have this problem? Do I need a whole new unit or is there a fix.

And if I did need a new unit (used from junk yard), would the digital setup plug and play?

Guessing you flipped the LED around right? (they only work one way)....

Flipped it around and tried the one bulb that was working and still nothing. It has to be something internal somewhere with the unit.

On the plus side, after replacing the door jam switch and some LEDs the interior is looking good.

I have the exact same issue. The left bulb is intermittent at best, replacing the bulb did not resolve the issue. '99 with manual controls, the left bulb (fan speed) only works sometimes. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has been able to fix...

You've got a short in the wire, simple as that. Either it's shorting at the connector (anything loose?) or the fuse box. Follow the wire and look for any splices or damage. If you have a multimeter you can test the power with the truck on using the DC voltage setting, one prong on the bare wire/connector the other on any metal ground. It's not that hard to figure out once you know what you are looking for.

If electrical is confusing for you, think of it this way. The wire is your "pipe" and electricity the "water". Using a voltage meter or multimeter allows you to "see" in the pipe. You've either got a clog in the pipe and nothing is coming through (damage) or a hole that's allowing the water to leak (short circuit). Start at one end and follow the pipe all the way downstream until you find the problem.

Thank you that makes perfect sense actually. I used to do all kinds of wiring, but I haven't in a few years now. I will get in there and check it out. On the plus side the LED light I put in on the right side provides enough light to barley light the left side so that a nice change.

i have a limited electronic climate control that 1/2 went dim just the other day....

do you fix the short in the wire by changing a fuse or soldering the broken connection?

No, they aren't interchangeable.

It's probably just the bulb, did you try swapping it out? Super easy to do, might as well swap all of them while you're in there: 99+ LTD Auto CC Light Replacement - YotaTech Forums
