Climate Control on 99 Runner

When I start my 99 4Runner my climate control lights will blink on and off, if I hit the OFF button it will shut off and then I can turn on the heat/air. Once heat/air is on, and i hit the mode button it doesn't always change modes. Last thing is does is if i try to turn off the heat/air with OFF button it will click off and then come right back on when i release the OFF button. I will have to go through this process approx 20 times before it will turn off and stay off.

do you have any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Thanks

There are members who have had issues with their automatic climate control system, me included.

If you do a search, you will see comments on the buttons sticking and not working. My truck has the same issue, once I turn the auto feature off, I can't get it to turn back on.

The culprit is the soft gel buttons. Mine works after the temperature changes (hot to cold or vice versa).

I leave mine set to auto and then play with the temp.

Thanks for the info...the Auto key doesn't seem to be my problem, it's almost more of a computer chip problem or something. When mine kicks on it doesn't matter if the AUTO feature is on or not. It just doesn't like for me to change modes. It will after several tries by me but sometimes can take a while.

Any other ideas?

I just had my climate control apart changing the bulbs and there is a ribbon type of wiring that connects the circuit board to the controls and it looks like that could become loose quite easily...don't know if that could cause the problems you're having.

Hope you figure out what the problem is - a new climate control unit is like $650, which I learned the hard way:bash:

I also hope i find the problem. It was just doing the same thing of, everytime i hit the OFF button it would turn off but when i release the OFF button it clicks back on. When I first turned on my car it had a 2 where your temp is normally set. I hit the mode button and the whole system seemed to go through all the settings. It started at 0 and would blow some air and then go to 1 and blow some air, then 2.....3, 4, 5, 6.....all the way to 12, then it started back at zero. At every number it would use a different mode....zero, face vents....1 floor 2 face and floor.....etc.

I'm really at a loss and it's really starting to tick me off. Any help would be AWESOME!

I know with my rambling above it could be very difficult to understand what is really happening....Anyway...

PLEASE HELP!

Snoog - Are you mechanically savy? Would you feel comfortable trying to work on it yourself?

There is a DIY writeup for changing the bulbs. It is all the steps you need to get at the part where the buttons are. I have read cleaning the film can help some. Then again, your symptoms are sound worse than just sticking buttons.

I am not mechanically savy but love to struggle through fixing stuff. I have found it's generally easier to take apart then put back together.

I think it must be something with a chip or fuse or something. Like I said it works so that's good but I am putting it on the market so would like to get it working before I try to sell it.

Thanks for your help....and keep the suggestions coming.
