climate control unit?

Hello again! In my '98 Runner I have the climate control with the two sliders and two dials - in short, I think its ugly. I have seen in some pics certain 3rd gen 4runners had digital units (2002 model?).
Can anyone help with some info on what model/year they were available? I did find a 2002 at the wreckers, but the dash/console was gone. I did however score the logo floormats and upgraded sunvisors for $20 - now if I could find the cargo cover...

You need a lot more than just the control unit to go digital. Two servo damper units and a couple of sensors to start. In '99 (my year), only the Limiteds had the digital climate control. So no 5Speeds with digital. I was happy, as I had had problems with reliability on these on other cars and it turns out the 4Runners also give their share of problems. And I wanted the 5speed manual.

I have a 2000 limited with the digital climate control. The only problem I think you might have is the digital climate control units let you adjust the interior temperature to an exact degree. There is a sensor somewhere that you would have to get with the display in order for it to work properly.

There may be another issue with it lining up correctly. The 96-98 consoles/drink holders/radio were different than the 99-02.

Someone who has done the switch can speak better on this.

Thanks for the reply, I realize I'll need all the additional pieces to match the unit itself, but I wasn't quite sure what year had the digital controls. I was hoping it wasn't a "Japan Only" thing.
