Clinking in Transfer Case

Ive heard this sound once in a while on my 4Runner however recently its been much more frequent. When I shift into a gear from park to drive or drive to reverse there is a loud cling from the rear end of the transfer case. I had a friend do some shifting (while vehicle was blocked and e-braked...duh...) and I looked around underneath for the source of the sound from that location.

Background:
I converted the truck from 2WD -> 4WD in January of this year and got the parts from a donor vehicle. Its run flawlessly for about 10-12,000 miles and this is the first related issue.

I get no noises while driving or anything like that just simply when changing into a gear. its also more noticeable when in 4LO. my guess would be something is either loose or broken in the output shaft?

I'm going to do some looking around tonight (check fluid level, leaks ect.) anything else to look for?

Ill see if I can get a video of it making the noise later.
