Clock and MPG LCD and AC control leds don't light up when the headlights are on

Hey fellow 4runner owners. I have been trying to wire up a traction control switch with very little experience and have been having some trouble with that, making a few wiring mistakes along the way. After my most recent attempt at wiring it, I noticed that my clock LCD, AC control backlights, and the 4wd selector and trunk window button are not turning on with the headlights. Instead, the LCD is on with the headlights off and it is off when I turn the headlights on which is very annoying at night with the headlights on. The AC controls backlighting is just always off as well as the light for the 4wd selector and rear window, etc. Just today, I undid everything I had done to return it to stock and but electrical tape around all the soldered areas to ensure that nothing was shorting and also disconnected and reconnect the battery.
This didn't help the situation. I was wondering if someone could help me troubleshoot this problem.

Sounds like you shorted something. Check the fuse for the interior lights. In the future it's a good idea to separate any modified wiring from the stock wiring as much as possible. I'll usually setup distribution points for any stock electrical functions that I need. That way I'm only tapping into the stock harness at one point. Makes troubleshooting much easier.
