Clock Display 2015 Trail Edition

Hey guys. I was looking through photos and videos trying to learn the ins and outs of my new truck, and I noticed the clock display above the radio seems to vary. In a couple videos I saw the clock area read out the multi-terrain mode info and some of the same readouts that I'm getting on my LCD between the speedometer and tach (mpg, range, temp, etc).

I'm kind of getting the impression that they changed the clock LCD from the 14-15... Or is there a way to toggle getting that info into that clock area? I'm not a huge fan of having the info on the LCD -- it's a bit too active for my liking. The clock area seems like a better place to put it.

As near as I can tell, this is one of the few random changes made for 2015. The clock on the 2015 is a regular ass clock, all other information is displayed on the LCD between the gauges.

I agree that the clock area would be a better place for that information, but I believe that is not an option for the 2015. Looked good on earlier models, 'though!

Yeah, I haven't been able to figure that change out. My theories;

1. Cost reduction.
2. Too many displays confused or distracted people; dash, center nav/radio, and this one.
3. The 2010 - 2014 display was too old-school looking compared to the other LCDs in the truck? Grabbing at straws here...

I think it might be 2, honestly. I thought the center display was cool, but admittedly that was after a "woah, why does it tell you traction control more there?" kind of reaction.

I may be confused at what you're asking, but I'll try to help. On the trail edition the display above the radio shows time, compass, mpg, etc - except when you are using the advanced 4x4 controls. When using crawl and multi-mode, you'll get information on the 4x4 systems. There is no option to change the display other than swapping between mpg and DTE.

I own a 2015 trail edition. The only thing the display above the radio in the center stack shows is the clock. That's it. It's a clock. All the other info is displayed on the LCD screen in the instrument cluster.

Yep, same here. Cost savings if I had to guess (agreed, Danimal), since the clock seems to be a simpler LCD than the ones I saw. It does also simplify the design by allowing you to mute all those readouts, but toggling the disp button and getting all that from the LCD in the middle stinks.

First world problem for sure. But I hate first world problems...

2010 - 2014 have this display. The 2015 does not, it's just a clock. The other info you reference is displayed between the gauges on the LCD.

Ok. I understand it now. Seems kind of pointless to even have that display if all you get is a clock.

This is the only thing I miss about my 2010. The display in the instrument cluster and the clock display had some overlap in the info they could show which allowed you to have more info at a glance with fewer button pushes. I didn't realize this was a year-model change and thought it might just have been omitted from the LE. I guess this means no hope of adding it?

I would also be interested if this is something you could add with the old part and if it would be plug and play?

Oddly enough, the 2015 brochure lists the Multi-Information Display as standard across the trim levels, but we know it was taken away from some of the trims in 2014. And yes, they list Multi- in addition to the LCD Display within the Optitron Gauge cluster.

I better grab one of these quick… who knows, they may take the projectors and rear LED's off in 2016 to account for the cost of the new dual smog pump system! :bounce:

I'm very confused with this whole situation also. I have a super white '15 TE premium coming in a few weeks and i'm really bummed about them taking that display away. It was literally one of my favorite things about the trail. What confuses me though, is that in two different review videos on the 2015's that I have seen, the trail premiums have had the multi-info display. . . But some of the others I have seen DONT. :/

Depending how far you want to go/ how much of the dash we have to take off I would be willing to reserve a day to pull the larger display from my 2014 and see if its plug an play to your 2015 for others info. I will check the FSM to see how much effort this looks like it would take

edit: I just checked and its not hard at all. Remove the trim around the AC controls then the lower center console, AC control unit, Nav/Radio unit (4 screws) and then 2 screws to get the display out. Had this all apart not long ago easy job.

Does the '15 clock display get its time sync'd from the GPS? I think I recall when I test drove a '14, the GPS time on the radio didn't match the time on the clock display. Pretty lame if that is the case.

No it's a manual set. One button for the hour and for the minute.

I just bought a '15 TE this week and to me the MOST annoying part is the flashing green "eco" dash light. Is there any way to disable this? I didn't buy this truck because I was concerned about first world made up eco issues.

That would be an awesome experiment for sure! Maybe even just share pictures of the wiring on yours and a '15 owner share pics of their wiring to see if any difference exists. Though, with all the talk of how master wiring harnesses are specific to trims and particular option packages on vehicles these days, i'm skeptical of it being plug and play. Twas a really cool readout though <sigh>.

I wish it would have the clock, temp (in Celsius), and compass in that area.

I cannot believe my Ford Edge had the option for changing the temp to Celcius, but the from Japan 4r does not, seems odd to me.

My dealer shut off the idiot eco bar on the display above the steering wheel also. That bar shooting back and forth was far more distracting than the little green light to me, which I also shut off, but I have some vision issues left from eye surgery a few years ago.
