Clock Rapidly Losing Time?

My 2017 SR5 is losing time on the clock quite rapidly - about 20-30 minutes per week. Any ideas on what it might be?

I have an inch-long magnet velcro'd to the dash just above the clock, but I don't think this is the cause. I removed the magnet for a while to test whether the clock would continue to lose time, and it did.

I realize the car is still under warranty but I really want to avoid bringing it to the dealership to tear the dash apart if at all possible.

You just need to change your clock fluid. Mobile1 synthetic works best. :bolt:



Seriously Though.. take it to the dealer as there will be nothing but joke responses to your problem. It's electronics after all. nobody is going to fix it. Replace is the only option.

As an embedded engineer, my guess is that the magnet messed up the oscillator that the clock uses to keep time. When you removed the magnet, there's a chance that the oscillator is still skewed away from the calibrated value.

Disconnect the battery for an hour. It will start and die the first time ....
normal.
