Closed diff breather?

Just saw this after searching for trail gear sliders (per duhockey). I just ordered the plug,breather and union to do the rear diff breather extension. Is this a better option or just marketing? Thanks.

While I think it is a decent idea, you can easily extend the diff breather for just a couple bucks. Unless you a planning on submarining, I can't see much reason for a sealed system.

It is a simple design and would be quick and easy to install. The extended hose is pretty easy to do to.

I'm sure that you have read how to extend with a hose but when I did mine, the write-up did it the hard way.

It's simple. Put the breather cap on the hose, make a small X slit in the rubber around the gas filler, push the hose thru the hole till the breather is against/near the rubber, tie-wrap the hose to anything you can underneath, route the hose to the new breather barb, clamp it off.

Thanks guy, I have done a lot of reading and I get the union and plug tomorrow. Just wondered if the geniuses (and there are many) might have something to say about the closed system.

Seems like the closed system would work if it was rated for the proper force required to push out when the pressure builds up. However, you risk it not being able to and the axle seals being the weak point. Then again, I really don't think the seals would give out before the closed system.

I think the closed system using the parts in the link above would work fine. Those bellows are pretty soft and I do not see there being an issue with the pressure variances not able to overcome the bellows. One would need to install it in a semi collapsed position to allow expansion and contraction.
