So I went to pass someone today and noticed that I accelerated rather quick and the engine sounded extra angry. Looked over at the boost gauge and saw around 12-15 psi. I instantly let off the gas and the blow off valve was way louder than usual. At this point I know I have a wastegate problem. Thinking maybe the hose came off or a melted diaphragm since it's a 5 year old $60 Ebay special. Took it off and found it was just a combination of carbon and rust on the stem of the piston seized it up. Pulled it apart, knocked the piston out with a hammer, sanded down the stem, cleaned out the body, reassembled. Test drove and back down to the normal 7 psi.

Nice to see you still have the 4runner and the turbo is still working out for you! Your turbo setup has been on my mod list for a while. Do you mind posting a part number to the air filter you used, or what it came out of? I think that's the only thing you didn't list in your build.

The old Greddy turbo timer quit so it got replaced.

Dont be that guy, turbo spooling through your neighborhood just to get your turbo timer to work. Ive had turbocharged vehicles for over 15 years making over 400whp and never once spent money on a turbo timer. Keeping it slow in your 25mph neighborhood is all the turbo timer you need. Doesnt madder if turbo is water and or oil cooled.

Doesn't apply here. I use the turbo timer to run the scavenge pump for one minute after the truck is shut off, not to let the truck run while the turbo cools down.

OMG, you just found a reason for a turbo timeer!!!! I have to tell the import turbo world. They think its a gimmick!! Love it.

Been paddle shifted since 2012 now, but Arizona killed my steering wheel. I can't stand steering wheel covers so I stopped at the local junk yard on my lunch break today. Picked up a decent wheel out of another 4Runner for $20. This time around I might try column mounted paddles... not sure yet.. goodbye old friend.

Some of the parts showed up for this weekends project. USPS shows the last part is out for delivery.

I used water pipe couplers from Home Depot to get the turbo setup done and never got around to replacing them. Four years later I thought it was about time I took care of that.

Soooo glad you bumped this thread. Just read it. Awesome build. Like many others, I was totally lost thru the paddle shifter design process, but the end result speaks for itself.

just for a min id like to bring you back down to reality here clownsteak(im calling your clownsteak from now own because meat is not doing you justice), just take a look at the this, as this is how the 99% see things...

Started on the column mounted paddles.

So this is what I have to work with as far as mounting points.

Got some aluminium from Lowes.

Found a solid mounting point.

Hinges and one arm on.

It fits.

Plastic trimmed.

Switches.

Paddle design and rough cut.

Sanded.

Now I just need to mount the paddles to the arms.

I registered today to say this is one bad ass build thread. I am about to get my hands on a v6 3.4 tacoma and was looking to find ways to add a little more power w/o breaking the bank. Some google searching, led me here.
