clutch problem

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum, thanks for any help in advance. I'm currently having a problem with my '95 4runner V6 5 speed, she has 240000 miles on her and is still running strong! Except that right now I'm unable to shift gears.

Symptoms:
-If I start the truck in natural It starts fine but when I go to place it in gear I'm not able to push the stick into any gear no matter how hard I try (two hands pushing).
-If I start the truck in gear (say first) it will start but will begin to buck forward unless i hold down on the break. Once started the truck will run fine in first but will move forward with the clutch to the floor.
-The transmission shifts gears fine with the engine off.
-The clutch feels softer then normal, but does have pressure.

The entire clutch was replaced at 200,000 miles including master and slave cylinder.
I have already tried replacing the slave cylinder and bleed the system, but am still having the same symptoms with no improvement. Thanks again for any hint tips and help.

if all you said is true, assuming you didn't burn out the clutch, the pressure plate has failed. but there is one other area to check first before condemning pressureplate. check the clutch pedal bracket these are known to break/crack. inspect from inside vehicle where bracket bolts to firewall

I have the same problem too. I have an appointment with Toyota tomorrow to have them check. What did you find out about yours? Was it costly?

Would be nice to know what happened, I'm having the same issue, :suspicious:
I was told to check the Clutch Master Cylinder, but if that's barking up the wrong tree, please someone chime in..

the original poster clutch was shot because it would slip if he held the brakein gear with the clutch on the floor , A bad slave cyl or master cyl can cause the same thing(cant get it in gear). but it wont slip holding the brake it will kill the engine. Usually the slave or master cyl will let you know before they completly go out. yo will notice you have to completly push the clutch to the floor to get it to disengage. I have had them that i to pumped the clutch to get it in gear. the clutch system doesnt hold much brake fluid, brake fluid attracts moisture the fluid should be changed every couple of years

I would assume the clutch slave/master cylinder was empty and has a leak some where in the system. A majority of the time Slave cylinder starts to leak and needs a rebuild or replacement. The spongy clutch peddle should have been the first sign to check the master cylinder for fluid.
