Clutch Problems

I have a 1985 4Runner 4WD and it has been sitting unused for almost 2 years.

I got it running today but I cannot get it to shift in gear. The clutch pedal is SUPER STIFF and it really takes almost everything I have to press it to the floor.

I have put in new fluid and sat there and pumped it for about 15 min. and it did not get any better.

Any clue on what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Check the slave cylinder, it sounds like it's stuck. You may have to rebuild it.

would bleeding the clutch help?
It's a good start, without seeing it in person it's hard to say what's happening , but if you have to push that hard and still no result it's got to be either the clutch master cylinder or the slave or both. Something is stuck bigtime.

I suppose it's possible that the throwout fork or bearing is rusted in place.
