Went to change a leaking valve cover gasket and found the cause. But don't know what part is called or if it's repairable, tried using a pair of pliers to pull straight up carefully since it is aluminum but won't budge seems to be jammed in. Need a new head or any tricks to remove and replace properly. thanks

That's the half moon. There are 4 of them (2 on each side). You should replace all 4 if replacing VC gasket. Here's the info for the part number: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/116069-3-4-valve-cover-gasket-replacement-part-s-n-pics.html (great write up by Jon).

As far as removing, I'd try heating it up by either running the engine 'til warm then taking it apart (harder to do I'm sure) or try using a blow dryer? Then just muscle it out...but make sure you pull straight up and not laterally in any way. When you replace it, make sure you apply enough gasket maker/FIPG. GL.

Thanks kanger heat gun and some muscle it's out now. Previous owner installed it incorrectly I guess. Thanks again now need to order a new one.
