How do you mount your CO2 tank in the 5th gen ?
i have a 10lb tank and looking for ideas .

What are you using the CO2 tank for? Air, Water, CO2? Might help get some responses.......
Also how big is the tank? I know you said 10lbs...but dimensions are probably more useful.

It's pretty common to use CO2 for onboard air instead of having a compressor.
Powertank is the big name in tanks/mounts/etc for vehicle use.

To OP: Does the tank fit vertically in back between the wheel well and the tailgate? Otherwise, I think mounting horizontally on top of the wheel well would work well.
 
I will be interested to hear what others are doing for this, too! I also carry a 10 lb bottle of co2 on off-road trips. Nothing airs up tires faster and it works great if you have to re-seat a tire bead.

I put my bottle on the floor, behind the drivers seat, with the back seat folded down (and lots of camping stuff piled on). When it is there, it cannot roll around and become a projectile or have anything hit the valve / regulator (this is important). And it is easy to pull out to use.

But I am always open to better ideas......

Mine is in the back of the truck, bolted to my drawers behind the passenger wheel well. Fits perfectly, out of the way, and is easy to remove.

I have mine mounted to the side of my drawer system like yours, but I used just bungee's because I also put water cans in that area when I don't run a powertank.

Without a drawer system, I don't have any good idea's on how to mount a powertank inside the cabl

I might rethink it and actually buy a base, so I don't have a missile in the back of my truck in case of a accident.

I have mine mounted to the side of my drawer

I might rethink it and actually buy a base, so I don't have a missile in the back of my truck in case of a accident.

I usually lay it behind the second row seat

For the record, IMHO, having CO2 in an enclosed cabin, where people/pets breath.....is a seriously bad idea.

co2 poisoning is always a concern, but you have the same warnings if you have dry ice in your coolers, and I use to run dry ice all the time. I always crack my windows from time to time, just in case though.

I agree, same issue. Frozen CO2 = dry ice.

I never was one to use dry ice either. But that's mostly because I like chewing the regular ice in my drinks and I'm too cheap to buy dry ice.....

That's exactly were I mount my 15 lb tank but unfortunately I don't have a picture of it mounted. Not sure I could squeeze a 20 lb tank there though.

It's definitely good to know the dangers but first off, you should check the isolation valve regularly with soapy water. If there's no leaks, you should be fine, if it's leaking get it replaced or swap the tank before placing in an enclosed space. After you are done filling tires or whatever it may be, fully close the isolation valve. Second, a lot of people run around with the regulator attached and that's a good way to make a missile should the tank come loose and/or you get in an accident. It is a little dangerous to have a CO2 tank in a vehicle on really hot days. CO2 greatly expands as the temperature goes over 100°. The safety will release pressure (CO2) around 150°F.

Sorry, I was going to ignore this but the engineer in me is dying a little inside. All of these are common misconceptions but they are wrong.

CO2 will not rust your tools, liquid does not mean water and CO2 is entirely dry gas below ~800 PSI. Tools rust off compressed gas due to condensation after you stop running the tools. This happens with any compressed gas including air if your hose length is too short to warm the gas. Both N2O and Co2 need a long hose. CO2 needs the longest hose to due enthalpy from phase change.

Nitrogen is way more dangerous in an enclosed space. CO2 will give you head aches and nausea as it poisons you not to mention making you feel short of breath. Nitrogen just makes you pass out and then suffocate while unconscious. If it's straight N2 it will also absorb free oxygen atoms it contacts to become N2O. Can't stress enough how much more dangerous N2 is. CO2, on the other hand, is held in large tanks at every brewery, restaurant and industrial plant with hardly any fatalities because it makes you sick before it kills you, it's even in the fire extinguisher you really ought to keep in your car.

Also, you carry way less mass with N2O since it doesn't change to its liquid state, so you get much fewer fills per tank. So they are not equivalent solutions.

The kinetic diameter of both N2O and CO2 is 330 picometers, the diameter of N2 is larger at 364 but in the presence of ANY oxygen it transitions to N2O and shrinks to 330. There are some games that have to do with the shape of the molecule but they are pretty irrelevant. This will not make a measurable difference in tire pressure loss. Tire companies switched to Nitrogen because it's cheaper than compressors. No maintenance. No downtime. No rust in your tools from moisture. Customers even paid for the "opportunity" to switch the tire companies equipment over. The marketing was very smooth.

No need to apologize. I just hear this stuff repeated to the point it's "common knowledge" and I'm too big a nerd to let it go...
 
my only concern of the air tool is the PSI , they r rated at 90psi and the co2 as a regulator of 150psi.
i read that it is fine but time will tell.
