Coastal Off-road rear bumper towing?

I am looking into getting a high clearance rear bumper from coastal off-road. I see that there is a 2" hitch receiver option. Will this be tough enough for towing a 5x8 trailer loaded with hunting gear? OR should I keep my tow package on below the bumper? That wouldn't be the ideal look but reliability is more important than looks.
If you have experience with this please let me know.

you need to contact Coastal Offroad to see what their bumper is actually rated at. Keep in mind that your welds are also a determining factor. Any response on this forum is probably just guessing...

No aftermarket company that I know of, besides maybe ARB, rates their bumper for towing.

Too many variables go into how they’re made, secured, etc etc.

Hence why a lot of them say ‘off road’ bumper, because they’re ‘technically’ suppose to be ‘for off road use only’; which negates any responsibility from them should something go wrong.

ESPECIALLY with a weld-it-yourself kit. Coastal Offroad (or any similar) has no way to know what kind of welds you've run, and therefore can't guarantee it will safely handle the loads involved.

When I was shopping-around for bumpers (skids and sliders too), it was important they be manufactured with high quality US steel. Roy at Savage ticked that box, and others, so I went that route for my bumpers...

That said the Savage hitch is not rated. What he did share with me was reassuring though, his own personal experience and that of others. He often tows a 4x8 utility trailer. Many of his customers tow tent trailers and fishing boats. He said a local guy has towed for years a 5x10 utility trailer for a cabinet business.

Such testimonials are likely the best one will get, but good enough for me as my utility trailer is 5x6, aluminum walls and floor, probably 400 lbs empty. With a rack later, tent on top, full of gear, maybe 1,000 to 1,500 lbs tops, I believe.

The coastal bumper mounts to the frame rails the same way the stock hitch does, right? As long as the welds are good..

Please let us know what you determine. I've been planning on going with a Coastal bumper front and rear as the savings is worth it to me and I enjoy hobby welding, but I also tow regularly and don't want to wonder.

New Bumper

Hey All:
Don't want to hijack, if you think I should I'll post as new thread...

I'm looking to get new bumpers front and back. Right now I have stock. I recently upgraded suspension to Dobinson's heavier duty spring and shock set up all the way round in anticipation of additional load on front and rear with some fitments of off-road bumpers, winch, roof rack, rear carrier for jerry cans, tow hitch, etc...

I looked at the Coastal mentioned above. I am not a welder and I would have to get it to Mozambique. I've been looking at pics on some threads but many links are old and broken. So I'm trying to find pics to decide what style I want...the Coastal looks nice, esp the closed top for winch.

I'd like suggestions for manufacturer options when it comes to bumpers & roof rack. Any other thoughts for doing this kind of work are welcome. If people have suggestions for pros and cons of various options, any pitfalls to watch out for, things you can and can't do. I'm setting this vehicle up for overlanding trips here in southern Africa and the rural driving done here in Mozambique.

To avoid shipping Bandit Runner sells plans that you can have a metal shop cut and weld not sure if he offers a tow bumper.

Thank you much! Will go take a look a the lists now. About two hours or so ago I thought of asking if anyone knew of DIY build/plans. I can cut the steel and I do know of a very good welder. Thanks again...really probably the only way for me to get this done reasonably.

Addicted offroad sells a rear bumper for not much more than costal offroad when they had their "not black friday sale" and they don't give a weight rating on theirs, but say that it can handle more than the stock tow package for 3rd gens. I plan on going this route, less work on my end and peace of mind is worth the extra 150ish i'll end up paying. Full price is a totally different story.

I went ahead with Coastal. Had a few surprises on the way as they designed it for the gen 5.5 4runner, but I had a good experience. Long forward to the rear

4xInnovations does. I've got a front and rear in my garage waiting for warmer weather to finish. I'm really impressed with Adam and his facility and product quality.

Shipping is killer, but if you are in the midwest take a road trip to Platteville, WI to pick up and save. I fit both front and rear in my 4runner with no problem.

FYI the factory hitch receiver bolts on through the Coastal rear bumper, so towing concerns aren't an issue.

Edit: rumor was wrong, it doesn't bolt right up. A little trimming can help, but I posted here double erroneously as mine is 5th gen.
