Code 42:

Automatic Trans: no signal for over 5 seconds when vehicle is traveling under 1.7km/h and engine running over 2,500rpm and shift lever is in in other than N or P range.

Manual trans: no signal for over 5 seconds when vehicle is traveling under 1.7 km/h and engine running over 2,500 rpm.

Trouble area:
1. vehicle speed sensor circuit
2. vehicle speed sensor faulty
3. torque converter slipping
4. ECU malfunction

I'd say its your VSS that's bad. Your other thread says you're having speedo issues, I'm willing to bet its the part I linked a photo to that's bad. I'm also thinking you have the electronic speedo and not the cable speedo, you'll have to confirm this by looking under there and seeing what is coming out of the trans; cable or wires.

If I'm not mistaken, the speedo sending unit is the VSS circuit, and if the speedo sending unit is dead, you will not get and speed or odometer functions, and if this is an automatic tranny, I don't think the torque converter will lock up without the ecu determining the speed and throttle position (which would address your hesitation in shifting).

I only see a VSS on Rockauto for your vehicle, can't seem to find any parts for speedometer, which leads me to believe the VSS is also sending speed to the speedo, but I could be wrong on this.

Also, try posting in just one thread, rather than multiple threads, it makes it easier for us to follow the progression of the problems, rather than having us flipping between several posts to figure out what has been done so far.

Thanks flyinhawaiin.. It had just been a month or so since I posted, but I will keep it to one..

But alright I'll try the new vss
I thought I had a cable Speedo cause of the cable that comes out from behind the cluster..

Cruise Control? What's that??? LOL!!!

Yeah, my truck never came with CC so I won't be able to help ya on that one. I'm sure someone else might know though!

If you have an actual cable coming out of the transmission, then its not the digital one, but you may still have an issue with the plastic gear on the end if its not reading at all. Lots of other posts covering this though, just search for speedo cable or speedometer or something like that, you'll get a good amount of info on it.

Yeah I don't see the cable down there.. Lol yeah the luxurious cruise control.. Shoulda just went with a manual trans.. I'm running into so many small issues. So annoying lol
