Code Reader Input on '05

My maintenance light came on Friday...and my co-worker has one of those little code computers (don't know the technical term) that you can plug in to the vehicle to get the code for what's wrong with the vehicle.

Does anyone know where this input is at? I tried looking but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for?

I was assuming it would be under the steering wheel somewhere.

Any help is appreciated.

now that I think about it.....wouldn't the maintenance light be more geared towards it needing an oil change (which it doesn')....?

You'll have to cut me some slack....I know jack about vehicles.

Yup, the maintenance light, I think in most cases, is trying to tell you you need an oil change. But it could be indicative of other things too. What's the mileage on your T4R? They could code in belt changes, tranny service, etc as well as the oil changes (probably shown in the owner's manual, RE: scheduled maintenace). And it doesn't automatically reset when you change your oil, you have to reset it yourself manually. So whether or not your machine actually needs an oil change is irrelavent. If you've never reset it after an oil change, it kept on going like you didn't change the oil and thinks it still needs to remind you.

As to the code scanner question (I call it a code scanner), the OBD port in my 2008 is located immediately above my e-brake pedal, and is covered with a little removable black plastic cover that reads "OBD-II".

The maintenance light is programmed to come on at about 7500 miles after last reset. It will actually start to stay on longer after starting at about 5000 miles after the last reset.

Here are the simple steps to reset it yourself if you do your own oil changes, or if the dealer forgets to do it.

TSB EL002-03 has these instructions:

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.
