Coil Replacement.....

Intermittent misfire on #3.....was going to order a Denso coil replacement off Amazon for $58 but I don't want to pay for my mechanic to put it in; is there a quick write up someone could provide. I'm assuming it can't be that difficult.

I lost the link from the taco forums I had. It's pretty much nuts and bolts. Take the air intake hose off the air box and the throttle body to give access to the coil packs on the passenger side of the engine. Should be able to do everything you need to do. If I remember correctly there might be a bracket or ground strap on the drivers side of the intake that might be in the way of grabbing the middle or rear plug on the drivers side. Pretty straight forward

I had this problem during first few months of ownership. Cleaned the coil up applied dielectric grease....and found the spark plug to not be tight. Check that first if you have not done so before dropping $58.

Should be one 10mm bolt and you unplug two plugs n it pulls right out.
also should move the coil to a diffrent location to see if the misfire fallow that coil.

I literally cannot think of an easier job. Replacing a coil is easier than changing a tire.

#3 is the center coil, so it's under your intake tubing, but that's no big deal. Undo the hose clamps and move it out of the way.

Once the intake tubing is no longer in your way, you'll see the 10mm bolt which secures the coil to the valve cover. Take that off.

There's a wiring harness on the coil. Unplug that.

The spark plug wire connects to the coil. Pull that off too.

Grab the coil with your hand of choice, and pull it out.


As the other guy said, you should switch it with one of your other two coils before replacing to see if the misfire will move. If it doesn't, the issue is likely not the coil.

if that doesn't do the trick look at injectors next....still not that bad of a job.

Changed plugs and wires 3 weeks ago and didn't have anymore issues until a week ago. Scan code while driving indicated #3; PO had all injectors replaced last summer.

I like the idea if moving the coil around first!

Sounds easy enough.....not gonna throw $ at my mechanic if I don't need to, thx.
