"Coil slap" with Metal tech long travel kit

Anyone else experience a loud slap or bang when going over speed bumps with these coils? It must be from the compressed coils unloading and making contact when going over the speed bump but I'm not sure. Any way to prevent this?i also did not put the black cone that fits at the top of the coil in when I installed them. I don't think that should make a difference but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I would probably put the black cone back in, stops the metal to metal. That will prob make the difference

Yeah, I would guess that the shock travel is longer than the uncompressed length of the spring, so it's going slack and losing contact with the top spring perch. You need something (like the black cone) to take up the extra length and leave the spring loaded.

I have slammed my 4runner at speed over potholes, speed bumps, dirt roads, rocks, etc, and haven't had a single noise come from the rear. I do however have the extended bump stops, which may be the difference.

ive got it with mine, its just a side effect of the top part of the coil being such a low spring rate. they will load and unload rapidly causing the "slap". its especially pronounced when im doing faster runs over woops and stuff. ive just gotten used to it however. its the only "issue" ive found with these springs

same, but i dont have extended bumps and zero noises. I also just hit the whoops in Pismo at 50+mph without any noises.

yeah i have the full stage 4 kit with springs, the 12" icon vs 2.0s, extended bumpstops, brakelines, and lower links

I have the HD MT springs, LT shocks, MT lower links, etc etc and have the same noise. I added some OME trim spacers I had on the garage shelf and that helped a bit. I'm wondering if putting the black cones back in would help more? I'm interested in a solution as I hate any kind of suspension noise.

I'm thinking the black cones won't do anything unfortunately. It's not like the coil is moving at the top of the bucket. Those things are under heavy load and can't see the top part making the noise. Just must be the coils crashing together after they extended over a large bump. Super annoying noise. The flex is incredible and the only thing keeping me from swapping back to 2" icons because the ride was better on those.

Search for "Whiteline coil spring silencer" basically looks like the cable management spiral wound wrap. I was thinking about how some coils have some sort of rubber dipped ends for sound dampening as well but not sure how you would get that done.

yes. i know for a fact that mine is just coming from the first few coil winds hitting eachother when unloading and loading over large or fast bumps. for the guys not running it that is probably part of their issue. mines not nearly that bad the only time i hear it is with the windows down

Same. The only noise I have coming from the back is my upper arms because one of my bushings is torn and that's the only thing that can move around back there when I'm beating on it off road. I'm planning on having new arms before my next trip out hopefully.

Have you checked your sway bar and control arms? I had my extended sway bar links too long and the sway bar was hitting something/moving around. Once I adjusted those any noises went away other than my upper arm issue.

My sway bar is likely coming off soon, I was just waiting to put my extended brake lines on which I finally did. Maybe I'll do that this weekend too. Check your control arm bushings while you're under there and loosen/retorque them after you put the cone back in.

i have no rear or front sway bar any more. the front cause flex and the rear since i did my elocker retrofit and the stock one wont fit any more. the lower links have be adjusted a million ways to sunday. my slap isnt very loud but if i hit mogule or something at a decent speed the springs will make noise if i have the window down or im listening for it with them up.

Mine is pretty loud. Louder obviously with the window down. I'll throw the cone back in and report back.
