coil spring isolator - Energy squeaks? with Bilstein 24-248730 and 24-249966 5100s

I'm picking up the Bilstein 24-248730 and 24-249966 5100s and KYB SM5184 top hats. What would you recommend for the coil isolators. On-road use only with 99 tall springs. I just need a minimum maybe 1" lift to prevent rubbing on my 2K sports ed.

I've had energy suspension bushings before on my Honda and they squeak, would that be the same case for these isolators? If so what do you recommend.

Tips (and discount codes) on where to buy the shocks and 99 tall springs would be greatly appreciated!

I just swapped out my frickin' isolators for the 3rd time...Previous 2 times were crappy rubber that comes with the tophat...kyb and monroe. they both split and tore in less than 6 months of use...mind you this is on tundra bilstein 5100 + OME 883s on the 2nd notch. Before this, i had a stock setup with rubber isoloators and no issues. This time i went with the Energy suspension poly isolators. If you get a lot of movement up there, you have problems, so they shouldn't squeak. I have ALL poly bushings on my rig now and the only squeaks i get are from the door hinges. Just gotta properly grease the ones that deal with movement...biggest squeakers are sway bar mounts and control arm bushings.

Man this makes me want to reuse my old ones since they only have 130k miles but almost 20 yes old! But like you said there shouldn't be a lot of movent up there. How much lift did these add. I'm wondering if I should stick to the 0 or 1st notch for minimal lift. I'm guessing I really don't need a lift because my rig is sagging from age so the 99 talls alone with the 5100 at the lowest perch will be enough.

Dang those 99 talls are pricey!

There isn't much to the top hats. Unless they are rusted, you can reuse them with no problems. The new shocks will come with new stem bushings (or, they should, or you can buy them separately) and other than the isolator, that is the only other 'soft' part there. No bearings or anything to go bad like a McPherson strut vehicle.

I really didn't want to have to compress the old struts just to reuse the tophats so I think I'll just go with the KYB and Energy isolators. thanks!

The lowest I found shipped for the 99 tall springs is $536.00 so if anyone has a code to share specially for one of those on-line toyota dealers that would be awesome!

BTW, thanks for this information. This made me decide on the Energy isolators. I only plan to do this once and I want to do it right.

Sux that the 5100s don't ship with the cushions and retainer washers (adds another $27 to the project) but it looks like the Wheelers cushion and washer kit is popular around here so I will go with that, the OEM stuff is ridiculously expensive and i don't think you can even get all of the hardware since some come with the strut.

I’m pretty sure you can get the Moog brand 99talls from rockauto pretty cheap. Haven’t heard if any issues with the moog coils.

Really? Wish I would have known this, I saw some posts on these but did not to pay too much attention as I was set on using 99 talls. But good to know. Also my 99 talls are on their way. Amanda at Camelback Toy price matched the lowest Toy dealer on-line price and its getting shipped 2-day.

3 years on my Moog 99 Talls and I still have a pretty significant rake. I don't tow, but I do haul 500lbs+ of computer equipment and tools on a fairly regular basis. For $37 shipped from Amazon, I'd say 100% worth it.

So far so good! I wonder is we have long term data on this? But it took me 20 yrs to replace my springs/shocks so I doubt I'm goingto need to replace em again.

Not sure, I did encounter that part number a few times when I was doing my research but I was set on OEM.

I actually got my 99 talls last night from Camelback Toy and they were pretty beat up, lots of scuffs and some minor chips. Quite disappointed really but its back ordered and won't get replacements tilnext week so I'll stick with what I have because i wnt to do it this weekend.

Maybe they have been sitting around a warehouse for a LONG time. Give them a quick spray of good rust paint. It'll help protect them a bit in the long run.

Yeah I think I'm just going to touch up the really bad areas, don't want to risk the paint peeling or cracking from flexing. I just can't believe I have to do this after spending so much on springs, I really thought about going the after market route really hard.

The aftermarket springs I have touched (moog and OME) don't have anything special paint wise either. Moogs being worse than OME of course. I have sprayed all of mine with some rust paint, both used springs and new ones. The paint has not cracked or flaked a bit on any. You can't go wrong. I just put a little painters tape over the color code so they still look like OEM when I am done.

James here from Energy Suspension. You'll only be able to experience squeaking from an improperly lubricated pivoting part, such as a control arm bushing, leaf spring bushing, or potentially a sway bar bushing where the bar pivots within the stationary bushing. The trick is to liberally grease these types of parts and wipe up the excess when it's all installed. 99% of the time, when I get a call about squeaks, the folks on the other side of the phone have not used all of the included grease that came with their kits.



On a coil spring isolator, there's no chance for any squeaking as the isolators and coil springs do not rotate within their assemblies. You'd be all set without having to do any lubricating.
