Coilovers or other for cold weather?

Hi guys,

Read a lot of great threads here on lift options and I am fully aware of all the suspension options available. My question is what experience you guys have with coilovers or other setups in areas with cold climates? With my work I will be bouncing around a bit in the next 5 years. First is DC area in a few months and then either Colorado or Wyoming. Looking at a coilover setup but came across a few users on this forum and other vehicle forums that had issues with them in low temps and/or different maintenance issues dealing with the salt on the roads. If you guys have any input I'd appreciate it. Don't really want clunking sound in cold weather or have to be meticulous with the maintenance. My OME setup is really nice but looking possibly to step it up. Thanks.

I have an OME setup as well. I live in MN and have not had any issues, other than the typical salt belt vs. steel battle. At really cold temps, -10 or below, it seems to be a bit stiff for a couple miles until things warm up. After that it rides the same as normal. I would add that most of the time that is noticed when I am leaving work and that road is a freaking corrugated washboard that rattles teeth in both my vehicles. I guess I have not noticed a performance difference overall in the cold.

I have radflo 2.5 coilovers with resis and as stated above maybe slightly stiffer on the coldest of days for a few miles then it's unnoticable. Fighting salt and corrosion is your only issue on anything you buy

Ya the OME setup I'm running (all except for Superflex rear springs) has been rock solid. Had a ton of reliability and fun so far. Just looking to take the next step. We plan on running with this 06 for a couple more years then going to a used Land Cruiser.

Well this puts my mind at ease a bit. I guess I did too much research last week. If you search long and hard enough you can find people who have had problems with anything. Thanks.

You'd be fine with coilovers...they also make socks that fit over the springs that keep your piston clean made of neoprene that would work if you felt it might help or at least keep the unwanted off them...
