Coilovers or upper control arms?

Hey ya'll..so I noticed after installed 3" spacers that one of my upper ball joints is leaking. After inspecting both, it appears they are sitting at a weird angle. After reading up on this forum, it appears to be common knowledge that spacers add stress on UPJ's.

My question is....

If I remove the spacers and add some coilovers like this: http://http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/TTEBCS--ToytecEibach-Complete-Front-Coilovers--3-Lift_p_1715.html - will this remove the UBJ stress? Or should I keep the spacers and get new upper control arms? I need to order whatever it is ASAP so any help is super appreciated!

Your link is broke. I would think that whether you have a coilover with 3" of lift VS a 3" spacer lift, your upper ball joint is going to be stressed equally.

No such thing as a free lunch

Both... coilovers and UCA.

If you wanted a super budget lift you should have stopped at 2" or less.

3" is where you can't really cut corners and expect a good result.

Not that you asked, but you pretty much start loosing performance on top of it without extended travel shocks and arms as you basically almost maxed out downward droop with that much lift. Even the lack of droop can effect on-road performance. I would be curious to drive your truck, I'm guessing you can probably feel the caster issues too.

Personally I have never been a fan of spacers, when I do suspension upgrades I want to actually see a benefit.

If you don't want to spend the money, I would go towards a more conservative lift.

Get rid of the spacers, it also causes more stress on LBJ's. I had a LBJ failure after I installed some spacers.

No madder what lift you install you will still get an angle like people stated above. I replaced my UBJ's with OEMs and one loosened up in less than a year. I now have SPC UCA's and no more angle issues.

Like others have said get both to fix the issue for good.

Great info. Thank you! Could you speak to these at all? http://http://allprooffroad.com/shop...-upper-a-arms/ I'm gonna pull the trigger because I don't want to spend the money on the really expensive total chaos ones. Thanks!

I would get rid of the spacers at the same time you do the upper control arms and just save up some money until you can get some bilstein 5100's or something proper for the front. Spacers cause the shock to act as the bump stop due to the way they just sit on top of the coilover assembly. Any spirited driving off road or even spirited on road driving can lead to catastrophic failure of the shock and potentially addition damages. Just google "front coil spacer failure" and you'll see pictures of shocks bent in half.

Just posted this on another thread. I went with SPC UCA's for the ability to adjust them, more misalignment than Uniballs, Sealed Ball Joint, and Greasable.
