Im pretty sure im ordering mine soon! Anyone has there spare tire up there if so, how do you keep it from moving around ?

i'm going to put my spare up there pretty soon. i'm just going to buy some ratchet straps to hold it down to the rack. bungee cords should work to

I put my spare up there (pics about half-way down page 3). I used one ratched strap. I went down through the center whole of the steel wheel, around two of the bars, and then back up through the center and obviously attatched at both sides. It hasn't gone anywhere in the couple weeks its been up there.

Not sure I would trust bungie cords, but thats just me, it may be fine.

4 bungee cords is definitely fine

i'll get some pictures up later, but i just took a thule load bar, thule load bar adapters for kcs, with a little grinding and welding you're done, ubolts on each end for temporary securement, i'm going to take it down, angle grind it so it sits flush with the basket and bead weld for a permanent sit

i'm still debating or not on whetere to put the tire up there or not. i may wait until i get a system for the back before i put it up there since its currently in my trunk.

how bad does your MPG get with the tire up there? i'm getting about 15 miles less to a tank now w/ just the rack up there

Received and installed mine on Friday. Seems like a good product especially for the price. Easy to install.

mine is at last installed and I was able to hoist it to the roof by myself-I am guessing the weight is 25 pounds roughly with all the mounting hardware . Those of you guys that keep a spare tire and wheel up there-you guys must be Hercules.....


Haven't done a tank yet to check mileage loss-I am sure hoping it is not 15miles a tankful-may have to cap my deck plate at the airbox. I am still enjoying that throaty roar when I put my foot into it.

Thanks again guys for making me aware of this option-I was pretty certain I would never have a "rack". This one is affordable and sturdy and serves my light duty/or poser purposes.

I got mine back in October. Ive been super busy lately so I haven't gotten a chance to post any pics. The day it got here I put it on (took like 20 minutes) then went straight to Denver (just shy of 400 miles there and back). With the trip miles, driving around downtown, cruising down to westminster and back to downtown I managed 18.7 mpg with the basket and bgf 265/75/16's. not too bad i guess, thats going 60-65 over the pass.

My guess is that the MPG loss is probably around 1-2 mpg if that. If you are that concerned with the MPG then you have a couple options.

1. Don't use the wind fairing. It wouldn't look quite as clean without it, but it would save you that $8 at the pump.

2. The rack installs in less than 30 minutes, especially if you have some help. Just use the rack when you are going to need it and store it in the basement or garage when not using it.

mine gets 14.5 mpg consistantly and I don't compain, it's a gorgeous, reliable truck

I don't think anyone here is complaining. Simply put, there are some that do keep conscious of mpg, and other's that don't. TRD4Runnin has good points tho, its SO easy to take off, if you're really concerned, it'll come off no problems. I only use mine occasionally......so its only on there occasionally because I can't justify losing mpg's for looks, especially because its so simple to take off, and I'm a ***** when it comes to gas.....(my money well dried up with the p's a long time ago). Or maybe I should trade it in for a prius That'd be cute....

Bottom line...killer rack, killer price, cuts mpg about 2. If that bothers you, get a prius.
