Color Matching Questions

So my fenders are black and so is my new sport hood (which I found out has a small ding on it). Ive been looking at getting a quote and was quoted around 900$ for the best of the best at Macco includes hood and fenders but I've see a few users use automotive touch up (rattle can) and from the looks of it look damn good and right on the money for a lot cheaper. So anyone want to put their .02 cents in
- Should I paint them myself with rattle can or buy a gun and spray them myself.
- Which paint is the closest to my color Sunfire Red. brand wise not color code I know that.
- What should I do with this ding?
- Anyone know of a good "cheap" shop in cali.

I'd say get it done professionally somewhere that isn't Maaco personally. Rattle can won't come out good unless you aren't picky, and Maaco doesn't have a good reputation.

Interesting. Ive gotten one of my 3rd gens painted at stockton maaco for just under 600. Although i prepped and did the body work myself. All they did was seal it then paint and clear coat.

On my 02 i bought an aftermarket sport hood in black and repainted it myself with paint from paintscratch.com. Its a little expensive but it looks decent. I agree with [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION] that you should get it painted profressionally to get the best results

Doing big parts with a rattle can yourself is a recipe for anger and frustration.. well, it is for me. Lol

Expect little hairs, dust, and the occasional gnat that think it's fun to get stuck just before clearing or after you clear it..

Something like a hood that is large and a focal point, especially with the scoop, should be professionally done IMO.

My local Maaco, Lynchburg VA, does very good work, quality varies from place to place though. Just have to get lucky and have a good one near you.

Someone clipped my car while it was parked outside my house and took off the fender flare extension and scraped the bumper. I rattlecanned it and came out pretty good. Not quite as glossy as a professional job, but you wouldn't notice unless I told you.



Small stuff can come out good, but I wouldn't do big panels myself.
