Colorado 2008 V8 price check

I've been doing a lot of shopping around and wondering the group thinks of the following deal.
2008 4Runner 4x4 Sport model V8
17k miles
Gray
7 year/100k ext service warranty
a few very small scratches
$29.5k

Seems like a lot, I don't see many with the low miles like this so wondering what you guys think. Anyone know what it would have went for new?

KBB is around $28.5 for Good condition.

Any info appreciated

I am not sure about the value of that sport model but I am in Nevada and just purchased a 08' SR5 v6 4x4 w/35k on it in 99% condition with a CPO warranty (100k) for $19,900 through a private party.

I usually look up kbb and edmunds in both clean/average condition to find the value.

Sport Edition models bring more, but IMHO, V8 vs V6 in the open market -- I don't see much difference in market value on resale. Personally, I won't pay a premium for low miles on a Toyota, but that's just me (but I take the miles deduct if the miles are over average when computing a price willing to pay)

For comparison, I just last week bought a 2009 SR5 4WD V6, 43K, for $22.9K ($2500 to $3K back of book). Personally, I never buy extended warranties, never have, never will. The Toyota nameplate is the extended warranty I buy.

Factor out the 4WD and a very marginal amount for the mileage and year, but I picked up a 2006 4Runner Sport V8 w/ JBL with about 54k on the clock back in February for $17,000 cash from a private party.

I don't know that 2 year models with minor (if any) changes and slightly less miles and 4x4 would be enough to make me pay almost $12k more for one. 4x4 would have been a nice-to-have, but the reality is I don't use it hardly any.

To each their own, that just seems a bit steep.

The miles are good but that seems a bit steep for an '08. I bought my '07 SE 4x4 V8 brand new here in CO back in June of '07 and paid just a few thousand more than the list price of the one you are looking at. But that is also a credit to the resale value of Toyota.

I wouldn't buy the extended warranty either.

This sounds like its through a dealer. Am I correct in thinking that? I think there is some definite negotiating room with that list price. However, SUV's become a hot ticket item here in CO this time of year. See if they can come down in price and see what the price would be without the extended warranty. Best of luck.

Bought '08 V8 Limited 4WD w/38K in Vermont last month for $27.5K. Excellent condition with just a few minor scratches. Toyota certified w/warranty through 2014 or 100K miles w/ new tires, brakes, oil, filters, alignment.

I bet you could get them to whack $2K off that price. Just make them an offer and walk away if they balk. You can always increase your offer by $500 if you really want it but I'd guess they have around $24K in it.

At the end of '08 I paid $28k for a new '08 Sport V6 pretty much loaded short of nav. I don't think a used '08 V8 Sport should be more than $23-24k, tops.

SUVs and all cars for that matter were on fire sale in 08,09. With $5 gas and financial crisis that followed. Auto sales were down 40%. I picked up a used Accord for thousands below fair market in 2009 Can't get the same deal today.

What someone paid in 2008 or 2009 means nothing. It's almost 2011 and prices on SUV's are coming up, has anyone seen the price for a new Tahoe or Sequoia?!?!? Our money is worth less so everything cost more. To the OP, it does seem overpriced though.

Thanks for the info guys, seems high to me also, especially since its from a private party and they won't deal at all! Another I'm looking at is a 2006 Sport V6, 50k excellent condition inside/out for $22.5 Sound more reasonable? I can live without the V8....

The '06 with 50k miles sounds more in line with what I think sounds like a reasonable price for a 4Runner in this area. The V6 is a great engine as well. Best of luck.

When I was looking here I found very few V8 4Runners for the price (under $20k or close), condition and mileage that I wanted. Even fewer at Toyota dealers, most were advertised by auto brokers. Auto brokers make me nervous. I could of bought a newer V6 here in Colorado easily for under $20k or close with lower miles. I looked at one @ Lexus here in C/S 08 SR5 54,000 miles and they were asking $21,500. With the carfax report I could of gotten it for under $20k. I also found an 04 Limited V8 84,000 miles at a Toyota dealer here in C/S. It was in Fair condition,fully loaded with sat nav, heated seats and reverse camera. They were asking $22,000 for it but I got them down to $18,889 ttl, with them also replacing the front brakes and performing Timing belt service and all fluids. Unfortunately they're waiting on the title from the finance company. They still have it but no title yet.

So being from Dallas, I looked around there and the pricing was about $2k or more difference. Found 5 V8's in Dallas, 2 at Toyota dealers and 3 at brokers. Had a guy beat me to #2 on my list. He flew in from Montana the same day as I did and beat me there by an hour. #1 on my list was at a Toyota dealer and it filled all the check boxes on my list. So I bought an 05 Sport 4wd V8 with 82k miles last week for $18,000 no taxes in Dallas. Colorado tax/registration for the vehicle $1,300. So $19,300 total. It's very clean inside and out, no dents or dings and leather. So look around. You may find a better deal and vehicle out of state.
