Colorado Trails?

I know the trail turns left and the bottom of the pic, did you go that steep hill, past where you took the pic ? we call that Heart Attack hill, with snow it get real scary, lol. then up and to the the rocks :bigok:

Are you talking about that hill in the pic? cause thats closed and not part of the trail anymore. I did the trail backwards so I went up the hill I think you're talking about and if everyone comes on sunday we'll do it the other way cause if we go up the hill everyone runnin BFG A/T's wont be able to make it. There was really nothing that felt difficult the little bit of snow made it a little more challenging but not difficult. Like I said I did it with ease today and you know my set up, stock, stock and stock, except under the hood:biggrin2:

yea the part that looks like the trail in your pic is off trail, im talking about the hill just past the cattle gate, right before the mud pits, last time we tried it in the winter, we looked at the hill, walked it, decided not to do, it was a sheet of ice, lol

Well actually the trail to the mud pits is closed due to a massive rock fall. The sign had a phone # for questions. Its an automated message that says its will be open again this spring. You can see the rock slide from an area of the slaughter house loop and its pretty incredible, and when i say massive rock slide, i mean MASSIVE rock slide.

Cost may be a bit on the high side of things but maybe check out Snowmass??

I have only been to Colorado once but we stayed in Snowmass (about 10 minutes from aspen) and they had a ghost town, plenty of hiking, and of course going into Aspen is pretty cool too. Like I said it is a little resort kind of town but it's a really neat place. Not sure about the offroading, but I think most of Colorado is good for that.

Go to winter park/fraser. You will absolutely love it. as a matter of fact I own a condo in fraser. I counted, one time, 13 wheeling trails within a 15 mile radius of winter park and one of them will take you up to the summit of a 13,800ft peak. I found an Indian arrow head up there once. And grand lakes is less than a 30min drive from there too. Not to mention the place is absolutely GORDGEOUS!!!

I don't know much about Colorado in general, just the couple places I have been (Colorado Springs and Snowmass). how far is the place from longmont and fredrick? because thats where ill be at! if you guys want to hook up something this weekend lets do it, but i wont be getting in fredrick till later sunday around 6 or so, but a meet would be good enough for me!!!

honestly, there's no "best place" in Colorado. You can have favorites but theres so many amazing places in CO there really cant be a #1. For me Aspen is too... popular? I dont know how to describe it. It's like the most famous I guess, and there are sooo many tourists it drives me nuts. When I go to other states I like to try to kinda of blend in with the locals, but thats just me. If you ever come back again these are my top favorite places in CO and because my dads a geologist, theres pretty much no where in CO I haven't been to. Heres my top 5 favorite places in CO:

#5) Buena Vista. Home to the collegiate mountain range wich has the highest concentration of 14,000 ft peaks in all of CO.

#4) Durango. It's a small mountain college town and it has the coolest downtown area of any city/town I've ever been to. Plus there is the a train that takes you up to silverton and the train ride goes through one of the most beautiful areas in CO.

#3) Winter Park. Small mountain town, ski resort elevation is 12,000ft and trails, trails, trails, and more trails. If you tried to do everything there is to do in Winter Park, I bet it would take a year to do it all. There is so much to do it's overwhelming. Fishing water skiing (in the summer) sledding, skiing, snowboarding, Offroading, hiking, the list goes on and on.

#2) Telluride. You've got two parts of Telluride. On top of the valley mountain you've got the mountain villiage which is where Oprah and Tom Cruise both have a house so its really ritsy but there are some amazing hotels that during the summer are pretty cheap. Then down in the valley you have the main part of Telluride which is the more normal living average income area but full of shops and restraunts and all sorts of stuff. The at the end of the valley...umm its hard to describe it in words

Thats a 1000ft cliff, yes thats someones house, and yes someone lives there and theres a 4x4 trail that goes up to their house and then does a circle aroun the whole valley.

Then you haven't been to the right places in CO. Lake City's population is 385. and besides, I said favorite places in CO, not the world. I love souther Utah too. As a matter of fact my favorite place in the country is Coyote Gulch. I could flood you with pics of places I've been. P.S. I took these pics.
