Colorado wisdom?

Quick question about registration fees... I know they are based on the MSRP and decrease over time, but what happens when you trade in a vehicle for another vehicle? Do you pay registration based on the full MSRP again or do you get credit for the current registration?

If you sell or trade in a vehicle, fees paid on what you sell are lost. The fees on the vehicle you buy start based on MSRP, if it is NEW, if it's used then they are reduced based on the vehicles age.

Thanks for the info. So... if we have 90 days to register and are planning to buy a new vehicle, doing so within that window will probably save about $500 it seems. Good to know.

Yep, If you can sell the old vehicle without registering it in Colorado you'll save money. The newer the vehicle, the more you'll save since the cost of plates is related to the age and cost of the vehicle.

Keep a copy of your current registration, and write down on it the date it was sold/traded. When you go for new CO registry, present that to them and they will prorate the charge from your last vehicle. I've done that on my last 3 vehicles, never had a problemo

^ Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure if I'll try to snag a '13 or wait for the '14.

Any suggestions on alarm monitoring companies?

You probably have most of these already (plus it's not hard to find with google), but I'm bored at work and figured I'd share them anyways. Save travels, let me know if you want to grab a beer or go mtn biking or something.

Lastly, here is a link to Douglas County's reverse dialing/notification program, called Code Red. Handy for all the BS fire we have right now

Thanks! Yeah looks like fires are off to a good start already this year.

Just a quick update for anyone interested... our house was completed last week and we are officially homeowners in Colorado. :whoo:

Congrats!! Since its been just about a year since you moved here how is it? Have you gotten out and explored? Football games, Hockey, etc?

Edit..that video on page 4 was a 5 minute walk from my house, we saw the last few cars including the stupid Ford diesel.

Yeah, almost 11 months. We did some exploring off an on for a few months after we got here but not much lately as it's the busy time of year for my company. We did manage to make it to a Broncos game, Rockies game, and an Avalanche game last year. I had intentions of getting out to a Nuggets game but it's just been too crazy, so maybe next season. We made it to the local Rodeo too last year and that was kind of fun. Hopefully we'll get some more time to drive and explore this Summer. I've been dropping some heavy hints to my better half for tickets to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in June so we'll see if she pulls through.

I have to say, I really like this little town and we are happy to be here.

I hope she does! I haven't been to one but Im sure its intense. I do have to agree with some of the others about no one else moving here BUT if its another Runner lover then your in!

Get ready for summer and all the endless things to do. Have you heard of Hanging Lake?

Ugh, had to start running the AC, even if we get random snowfall in the mornings every few days.

The heat pump is small and even the huge houses have tiny solitary units--especially by southern standards where a house this size would have two downstairs pumps and one upstairs one.

Doesn't help that the vents are in the floor and the only cold room in the house is the basement.

I live just outside of Woodland Park, it's noticeably cooler than the Springs, but it's pretty damn warm given that it was -20 degrees just a few weeks ago.
