I saw that Blizzard Pearl was going to be a $220 upcharge, I believe if this is true that that would be a first time Toyota has charged additional $ for a color on a 4Runner.

The Blizzard Pearl is a surcharge on all the vehicles that carry it for Toyota. I had seen it on a Venza and had a Highlander in that color and they are both surcharges.

I have seen similar tones on Caddy vehicles and a few other manufacturers and they also charge more for the color.

I think it has something to do with the paint formulation for it.

Understood, but the 4Runner has been offered in this color before and I dont believe there ever was an upcharge for it.

Yep, it cost more to make this color and other Pearl white colors because it is a tri-coat...at least this is the explanation for the additional charge on my Pearlescent White Lincoln LS.

Another thing I noticed while tooling around the Toyota site was that some of the colors are trim-level specific.

The Blizzard Pearl is only available on the Limited in 2010. God-willing this will change next year. I might be able to con the Mrs. into one after the first year kinks are worked out, and that white would look sweet on a TE.

I'm surprised that Toyota dropped white and tan colors. Both seem to be popular out here in the southwest. As for me I prefer black so I'm still covered.

For the 4th Gen, it was a part of the Urban Runner package, so I'd guess the upcharge was buried in the package.

Not sure about the 3rd Gen -- I vaguely recall it being available on the 2002 Limited, but I don't remember if there was an additional charge.

nevermind!

- Black
- Shoreline Blue Pearl
- Salsa Red Pearl
- Magnetic Grey Metallic
- Classic Silver Metallic
- Blizzard Pearl

I noticed that they added Salsa Red and Shoreline Blue to the silver/black colors on the TE. The two new colors available "late 2009." I'm gonna go for a red TE, myself. I wish I could get the signal mirrors on the TE, though. Wonder how hard to retrofit, or if the wiring is already there.

The TE that Edmunds tested was Salsa Red. There's also video of it on YouTube.

I think it'll be a few months before we see the true color and model availability. It's going to be slim pickings in the beginning.

Yeah but the Urban was also available in two other colors if I'm not mistaken, so I don't think we can really say they charged more for the special white paint on the urban unless it cost more than the urban in the other two colors.

There was a special white color offered only on 2002 Limiteds but I can't remember the name of it - I don't think it was called "Blizzard" but it was sort of a almondy pearl type white though. Thai had one - maybe he'll remember the exact name and whether there was a special fee for the special white paint that year, whatever it was called :D

Edit: I just checked J.A.'s site and the special color available only on the 2002 Limited was called "Golden Pearl" - it looks really nice in person. I think Thai's '02 was one of the very first T4ROTM winners so there should still be some pics of it there.

The SR-5 I drove was the Blizzard Pearl, its a really nice color, probably my favorite for the new runner. But this is Hawaii and Hawaii orders its cars direct from Toyota and not Toyota America so cars are optioned differently from the States.
