Comfort Ride, Trail Capability, & Maintenance

I didn't want to muddy up the generation specific areas but wanted some real world experience on suspension set up.

Currently I'm running just an OME setup with BFG A/T E rated tires. I completely understand my ride will be stiffer but I feel like the OME setup might be a bit too stiff.

I'm looking for a suspension that will both be overbuilt for trail rides, but comfortable on-road. It is my DD.

Can those of you who have swapped out one aftermarket system for another share with me your real world feel between the two?

I'm looking for more than the Bilstein setups. The options are dizzying to say the least. Within reason, cost isn't my first concern this go around. I will pay more to get what I'm looking for.

Thats easy. . .if you want the best you get Kings. I run Toytec Billsteins with Icon rears. Its fine, but have been let down by the quality of all of them. The last thing I have ever heard was someone NOT happy with Kings. Look at the best of the best 4runners on the forum from all gens. And by that I mean the most work/money/followers/attention to detail. A majority of them went with Kings. From [MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION] to the old Romp Runner of [MENTION=87687]LTDSC[/MENTION]. These will give you the BEST performance on and off road like you are requesting. You just have to pay a premium for it.

Icon and king are designed to be way more comfortable than OME and the like. Totally different class of shock. It's like fine dining vs Applebees.

I'm afraid if I don't replace my suspension I will be eating at Applebees. Of course, when I do spend the money I might have to work at Applebees to pay for it.

ill chime in from experience since suspension is something I just replaced throughout my 4runner. I went with bilstein/toytec all around, and maybe its because its all still new, but man does it feel stiff off road. that bombing down forest service roads I use to love, would probably knock my teeth out. haha. really wishing I had dropped the extra money now on something nicer. HOWEVER, I'm going to run these things for a good year, and see if anything changes. (me or the truck).

Not entirely the same but. I had OME and 5100 on my 2012 short bed quad cab 4x4 Tacoma. Was way to stiff on and off road for me esp for what I used it for when off roading. This time around on my 4Runner I will deff not make that mistake and look forward to what others have to say.
