Common Issues/prombles?

I've recently started browsing for a 3rd gen 4 runner.

It's a toyota, so I figure it's pretty reliable, but are there any/what are some known problems for them? Any specific options I should be looking for?

Will be mostly DD'ing it. Not much off road, primarily going skiing and hauling dogs/boat.

Any problems with the 96's 97's? What kind of price range am I realistically looking at? Kbb said around 8ish, but I'm not finding any in that price range.

Sorry if this has been posted before, I'm having a hard time finding information.

Most of the common issues are covered by the only two recalls that I know of which would be the rear springs and head gasket otherwise as long as it was reasonably taken care of there shouldn't be anything that is documented from other owners.

For other things it might be worth it to pay a dealer or a trusted mechanic to give it a once over to just be sure.
Keep looking around as I've started to see quite a few 3rd gens going for around $8k and cheaper quite a bit lately.
