Common question, 285/70-17 fitment?

I looked around a little on the stickies and searched, and I know this is a noob question but don't flay me alive lol, I need to know pretty quickly to make a decision.

My brother bought an 89 pickup, and it has the Tundra split spokes with Toyo open country ATs, 285/70-17, about 40-50% tread left. I have the 3 spokes with factory size tires, and basically he wants to trade straight across for his wheels if I get some used 285/75s for my 16s. With all that being said, what would be necessary for fitting the 17s with 285/70s on my truck? I have all factory suspension. I wouldn't be wheeling it now, so minor rubbing wouldnt be an issue, nor would trimming the bumper or flare part on the bumper as its been bent before and needs to be replaced with a tube anyway lol. But that's an impossible deal to pass up, tundra 17s in great condition straight across for scratched up 3 spokes? This has to happen. Thanks guys

285 70 17 calculates to 32.7in diameter. 285 75 16 calculates to 32.8in diameter. So if you look around on here at what people have had to do to fit 285 75 16 you will have to do the same.

Just trade him and either be prepared to put a 3" lift on it or just get out the hammer and grinder.

If you're not wheelin it you can get by with some hammer and grinder and cutting without a lift. You'll be able to figure it out.

Yeah unfortunately the t4r is my only vehicle and I'm not exactly able to fund a lift right now, so I'm either going to try and make them fit, or get shorter tires. And I won't be wheeling until a list of other maintenance is done. He's got someone lined up to buy them if I dont get them so that's my big rush. If I had the funds available right now, the toytec 3" ultimate would be going on first. I dont mind trimming or cutting the bumper, and thought maybe wheel spacers would help. I'll try and locate some other threads also, thanks for the replies

As already said. They are the same as 285/75r16 and will fit the same. I road around with stock suspension and 285s for several months. You will rub atleast some. Look at trimming the pinch weld. It will be the worst.

If you do wheel it then a lift won't make any difference, full bump is full bump regardless of the lift, unless you extend bump stops and decrease up travel.

I have 285/70/17s on my rig with 3-3.5 inch lift. trimming of stock front bumper is needed and there is a seam on the firewall that needs to be banged down. nothing major at all.

do you have a pic to locate the firewall seam which needs to be flattened?
