Im getting the passenger side dash noise. It sounds like there is a ball rolling around. When I accelerate i can hear it clunk on something. The weird part is that it doesnt happen every time i acclerate. Any ideas or suggestions? I dont have any items in the glove compartment that would make the noise. I am almost to the point of taking it to the dealer and have them take a look.

Get someone to drive your car while you sit in the passenger seat pinpointing the location of the noise. So far mine has been rock solid, hopefully this is a false alarm or a rare fluke.

We have noises too! It is driving me insane but it's my girl's and she doesn't seem to mind. I have tried to lacate but have gotten no where. Stinks. Sounds like it is coming from glove box. that's plastic for you!

Silly as it sounds, yes i did. I took them out and haven't heard the noise since. Problem fixed.

I did that with my 4th gen. Drove me nuts for weeks - so I had my wife drive while I searched for the "loose" part. Turned out to be the sunglasses! What a waste of time on my part. But I was relived to know there was no problem with the 4R.

Women have the ability of ignoring creaks and rattles. Every time I'm in the car w/ my wife, I ask "do you hear that rattle?" "Nope. You're a noise nazi."

Glad it's resolved. At least you didn't go to the dealer and raise hell about a dash rattle on a $40k + SUV, make the service manager ride with you to confirm the rattle only to find out it was the sunglasses!

Isn't that the truth, maybe i'll do it just for fun. Or maybe not

Ok I have the same rattle and it's NOT sunglasses in holder. I have nothing in my glovebox except the leather book case that came with the car, I have even taken that out and it still rattles. I have taken everything out of my center console and the stupid rattle is still there. I have had someone else drive while I rode in the passenger seat and tried to locate the rattle, it seems like it's in the latch of the glovebox. I know as soon as I take it to the dealership they are going to take one look at my 4R and then at me and say "she's just a girl and doesn't know what she's talking about" but it's driving me CRAZY!

If anyone else has any suggestions I'm up for trying just about anything.

When you go in for your first oil change, I woudl have the dealer take a look at the latch. Maybe they can tighten it or something.

Why don't you take a screwdriver/nutdriver to all exposed screws/nuts in the glove box area (especially the latch mechanism) and tighten anything that may be loose before you bring it back to the dealership? If everything is tight but you find a loose piece none the less, stuff some cotton or folded paper between the loose piece and whatever it's attached to - this will stop the rattle and help ID the culprit when you do bring it into the dealership.

It's in the overhead console above the rear view mirror. Push it and it slowly opens. This is where mine is on the SR5 - could be different in the Trail ...

ah thanks. I have a Trail, which has some off-road instruments up there. So I think I don't have a sunglasses holder....

There're rattles in my end-of-the-run '09 and it's irritating. Taking it to the dealer is a non-option because of previous experiences (paint/body damage, ineffective and expensive "repairs", lying to my face, etc.).

But the bright spot is sometimes these rattles/sounds go away on their own. Go figure.
