So I just took my Runner on it's first camping trip.. it went great! It took a serious beating, far more than I thought it would. It's great and is a decent daily driver and off-roader.
It has some things I need to repair though, I'm aware of that it has several oil leaks, and the front brake rotors are warped. I know the 3vze is quite a weak engine, but I just wanted to know if this issue I've been having was normal: It was about 150 miles to get to the campgrounds I stayed at, and there was a lot of highway roads spinning around and up and down the mountains. I had a really hard time going uphill. Even if I hit a 6% incline going about 80 mph, I would drop about 20 mph in 7 seconds. I found out the only way I could even go up a hill without slowly losing power on the highway was keeping it in 3rd gear, and ramming up the RPMs to about 5200. Is this normal? I actually ran into a mechanic near one of the lakes, and he said that the oil leaks could be causing a compression issue that would cause it to do that. Anyone have any experience with this?
