Compression Test Results

hello
I warmed up the engine..did the test and results were : 1- 178, 2-189, 3-180, 4-182, 5-185, 6-189, Hope these #s are okay...Truck has 362,000 kms on it.

I also have another 2002 4 runner which had 205, 150, 200, 190, 148 & 200
The Ist cyl had quite some oil in it & read 205psi. Wonder what are the causes of oil in that cyl. thnks.

yes on start up, don't think so under load, but tough to look behind me.

yes misfire, i'm swaping injectors this weekend as i know i have a bad one and only want to this this full removal once. i'd say yes for poor performance but then again these aren't exactly the most powerful trucks lol

i think before i do the flush i'll try to pressure test it. just need to find a tester i can borrow

you say you only want to do this one time, then I would definitely do a leak down or pressure test first
otherwise, if replacing your injectors does not fix it, then yo do the leak down or pressure test, and you have bad results then you will have to tear into it a 2nd time

did a test today, battery on a charger, 6 cranks for each, did each cylinder twice to make sure i was getting consistent results

1 - 200
2 - 187-190
3 - 187-190
4 - 192
5 - 200
6 - 200

pretty happy with the results...i know some guys say 5 cranks but i generally go until there's not major bump in the needle

i'm pretty confident i'm "burning" coolant, white smoke on startup so i think i need to do a leak down test to check my headgaskets

considering that your numbers are healhty according to service manual, wouldn't that rule out the possibility for a head gasket leak/crack??.
I'm in similar position.
my compression numbers look like yours. did you end up doing the leak down test? I think I"m going to do a LD test tomorrow morning

If you confirm the head gasket leak from what I can see from you test is the compression is fine. A plug inspection may give you an indication of which cylinder is leaking. Not all that important as you should replace both head gaskets. If this is going to be a keeper I would make sure you check valve lash and correct any that are out. When you go to put it back together make sure you change all of the hoses that move coolant. Why go threw doing all the work and have a coolant hose destroy all the work. If it has a miss when you first start it pull the spark plugs and if you find one wet with coolant then thats the head gasket leak if not then go do the leak down. A good coolant pressure tester that does not it self leak can confirm a leak. :hatsoff:

That was difficult for me to read. I hope you're not suggesting he use a cooling system pressure tester in place of a cylinder leak down test. Cylinder leak down test after a compression test is much more accurate than using a cooling system pressure tester.

A cooling system pressure tester is a easy way to see if there is a leak weather the leak is external or internal the leak down test is a great tool it ends up being a lot of extra work that could be better spent by just doing the pull down and getting it done. . Some times a compression test is not able to show a blown head gasket. In this case the compression is already done as he is just trying to confirm the coolant leak into the cylinder. Another thing to check is if you bring each cylinder up to TDC and one or more is very clean that means water has gotten in the cylinder and the steam conversion has cleaned the top of the piston. I have a leak down tester I don't use it each time I think I need to do a head gasket. If the spark plug is wet with coolant just tear it down IMHO....
