Compustar Best Buy install Fail

Hey guys, well I got that remote start from the online special a member posted on the forum. But the install guys failed me

I have booked a second appointment so they can redo the installation properly.

The system is working fine its just the finishing that wich they sucked royally. First I noticed they scratched my steering wheel... Then when the cold and snow came I noticed that the winshield heater and power relay buttons where not working anymore, so they must have forgotten to replug the harness...

And last but not least they didnt pass the wires through the firewall, but on the side if the door and put black tape to cover the wire. When I saw that, I freaked out and called them.

What do you guys think I should do, stay there and watch over them the whole time or go see the manager and tell him my story ? I dont want to get angry and tell them off I just want it to be properly done. Like I said the system works as it should.

I'm not sure to understand, the route the wire through the front door and under the fender?

You should seek refund + damages to steering wheel and find a better installer.

Go to a different store if the tech took a shortcut like that going under the hood. Your profile says Montreal? From my understanding they don't install stuff up there.

Yes Montreal's south shore, I live 45minutes from Plattsburgh thats why I went there.

Yes exactly. I will post some pics when I get home from work. Viewer discretion is advised as youbwill freak out also when you see the botched work they did

I generally cringe at the thought of others doing electrical work on my truck these days… I’ve seen some real botched jobs over the years. I really try and keep that stuff to a minimum if I am not doing the work myself.

It's really is difficult to find good labor and shops that give you that white glove experience and quality.

I would take good notes, photos, and talk to management about what it is you are seeing and seek resolution. It helps to understand general best practices when doing automotive wiring, hardness building, and the types of certifications that are generally required for their installers. I had an alarm installed in my car back in the day and many shortcuts were taken. I made a case for myself, both material and labor were refunded along with damages repaired.

Living up north it's pratical to have a warm vehicle and also help melt snow and ice. This is a common accessories with the block heater here.

Totally agree, a good quality installer is hard to find nowadays. There is a flip side of the coin here, being an installer for many years I cringe when a truck like this comes in with aftermarket wiring stung all over the place under the dash and you need to remove it to gain access.

Minus 30 celcius at 5am..... With kids... Very practical Not for looks.

Also it seems not so hard to do the install. It saddens me that they took me for a clueless punk. But I will go and talk to the manager to get a compensation or a goddamn good apologie .....

For the scratch I would just call out Fibrenew Leather Repair, Plastic, Vinyl, Fabric Restoration
They do great work, quick and least evasive.

Depending on your needs, it’s either a necessity, or a luxury item. I don’t have it in my 4Runners, but my GM truck has it and it’s pretty nice. It came as a factory installed option, I won’t do it aftermarket because of thread like this and depending on the system, it can reduce theft security (immobilizer bypass). The install is critical.

• Winter months, warms up the truck interior, run a block heater.
• Summer – gets the AC going.
• Running the truck for battery charging or getting the alternator going to run things like compressors.
• I found it pretty convenient when camping.

All of this can be done with the doors locks and without the key in the ignition.

Cool factor? If you mean to warm up the engine so you car is cooled off on a hot day or toasty on a cold day before you jump in. Along, with helping defrost the thing if you park outside. Then yeah I guess you could call it "cool" or "hot" factor.

I lived in San Diego for the past 10 years… and you are wrong. It’s more like 60F to 85F, with inclement weather being a light drizzle which generally causes everyone to drive faster creating accidents and massive delays on the 8, 163, and 805.

That said, I miss San Diego.

Only an option on ones with Smart Key, which is only the limited. (TRD Pro too?)

From my quick google searching it looks like there are some plug and play options for the Smart Key systems that would apply to the Limited but not 100% sure it’s an OEM option. The Lexus GX 460 has a factory / OEM manual for remote start. I suspect it’s an OEM option / part but I haven’t confirmed it.
