yeah for the price of a T11 I could get a drone mobile install and 6yrs of service.

drone mobile install is $450 and 3yrs of service is $120.

oh wow, it's that expensive? I was always under the impression that the drone was the most expensive option out there.

What price did you get for a T11 install?

I got $680 from Cartronix in Valpo Indiana.

Abt in Glenview, IL says they don't do Compustar any more.

Trying to get one more quote.

Nothing but awesome remote. its virtually life proof. I have had it since release back in august! It is a great improvement over my 3 year old 901 remote.

FYI I just got back from a 2 week paid trip to NorthPole Alaska to just install these crappy systems you talk of. I only did 52 cars in 12 working days up there.

Im sorry you feel that way about aftermarket systems.

I feel that way about the 10+ systems i pulled out out of the 52 cars. Not all installers are like that. I rate myself by my last job. I did a crap job in the last car, Im a crappy installer. It tough to find talented installers, Im one of those talented installers pounding at this keyboard to try and make you change you perception.

Heck im renting a home currently and a "pro" garage door installer came to replace teh broken garage door opener. I kicked him out because he was a idiot and did it myself. This isnt even my home!!!!!

When my I was still in Philly, i had guys come from 800 miles away to have me install. Im flattered by that!

I have done cars many have not seen on the road yet with remote starters, sometimes too many to remember. I hope i can change your tune, I know i changed [MENTION=32290]gm350reratliff[/MENTION] about compustar

I'm not doubting your ability to cleanly install an aftermarket system, but the majority of these installations create a total rats nest of wiring that is a total pain to deal with when it goes wrong. With that said, sorry that the majority of installers make guys like you that do clean aftermarket alarm installations look bad.

I totally get what you are saying. Some of us have professionals install very complicated stuff onto our rigs, but we continue with our "smaller mods". Everytime we take our interior panels off to wire something, we are sometimes met with a freaking packaging disaster. I hate that. The T11 seems to be a great system and most likely will stand the test of time. My current CompuStar remote start has been acting squirrely. DAMN, I soooo regret not hitting [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] up to do mine (and my Civic and my brother's RAV........ I really don't trust anyone which is why i haven't done anything as of yet). URgghhhhhh

Very true. There are loads of people that suck. I heard there is a app coming out that rates people like you rate food like a yelp for people. would be great in cases like this.

Those are not your run of the mill alarm/remote start systems. Compustar is the best. Period.

Typically, crap wiring jobs are mostly to blame for a alarm/remote start not working correctly. Bad wiring can also damage an alarm/ remote start system and/or the vehicle but usually the system itself gets the blame.

FWIW, the alarm system in my 2008 4runner that I installed in 2008 is still working like a champ. As is the system in my past 2004 Z71 (sold to my supervisor) that I installed in 2005. Same thing with the system in a 1994 F150 (dad's truck) that was installed in 2002.

This is true. I was a DEI guy for many years. Installed a ton of them (although never as quick as Steve) over the years. This is what the shop I worked at sold and for many years they were good. Unfortunately, we started having a few issues with DEI about a year before I left the shop. Not sure if they ever got them resolved.

That being said, I wanted something different but better for my 2014 4runner. I had heard of Compustar before but never had installed one until I installed one on my 5th gen. There is a big difference you can see right out of the box and all the way to how well it works. Far more options you can program and get everything just right. So yes, I'm a believer now.

A good installer is so hard to find. I'm lucky/blessed/whatever-you-want-to-call-it that I can and do most of my own modding and maintenance. If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. That includes around the house.

Couldn't agree more. The remote starter/alarm is more than I want to get involved with. For sure there would be some issues I would want to address such as: the piezo "beep" our rigs make when they are locked/unlocked with the factory remote. When you install the remote starter, it no longer makes noise and is replaced by a "beep". I would ask [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] to quiet the beep the remote starter makes and have the piezo beep instead (not sure that is possible) and other things that come second nature to him.

There is an installer about 2 miles away from me, but I haven't stopped by (I might not). Don't worry Steve, I won't ruin your Halloween visit by dumping my cars on ya. Maybe next time? LOL.

the peizo sound is actually a speaker in the fender. we cant just apply power to it and make it chirp.

FWIW, I ended up getting a Viper system from Abt Electronics.

Turns out to get a Compustar T11 you have to go to a "Pro" shop. The closest was "Armando's" on Lawrence Avenue. Now Armando might be the most upstanding guy, but if it didn't go well, I would have to listen to a whole bunch of I-told-you-so from the general.

I also debated going all the way to Valparaiso Indiana.

Some outfit in maybe Bensenville maybe TintWorld told me about another line "Arctic Start", they could install. Turns out that website was taken down by the encrypt last Thursday. The remote was called Edge 2X, looks like one notch down from T11. Sorry I can't find the piece of paper, i think the quote was $500 for everything besides taxes.

And yes I am having some regrets.

This Viper thing is like a wife, it won't start the car and I don't know what I did or said that is causing it not to start. It blinks the lights on the 4Runner and the LED on the remote, but what did I do? I can tell its the Viper because it also turns on the license plate lights, and they are those white LED lights. Until this morning I thought if you lock the doors with the Toyota remote, then there is a delay before you can remote start, but now I don't know. The manual is about worthless. You can't download the manual either, unlike Compustar or Arctic Start.
