Confusion with electrical wiring - pos and neg both show continuity on aux light

I had the multimeter on a hella 500. It popped the fuse when I turned the switch on.

I replaced the fuse and retested the light. The light works still, however hooking up the multimeter again pops the fuse. Here is what confuses me. To test, I upgraded both the bulb and replaced the included wires with 12awg. Issue persists with new equipment.

When isolated, the positive and negative lead both show up as being connected. However, if I connect the wires to a nearby power source, the light still works and the continuity tester silences.

Is this expected behavior from the hella 500? Both wires show a connection to the metal casing of the lamp. Even after changing out bulbs and wires.

I don't think you are supposed to use continuity and power the light at the same time. That would be a short. You getting and resistance across the same wires?

By both wires showing connection to the casing you mean they are both shorted to the housing? I'm not sure what kind of light it is but isn't the filament type just a coil that heats up?

I was checking the pull from the light when it popped. Continuity was tested later and found the issue of both leads showing closed.

Looks like both bulbs were defective. Short found at base of bulb itself when removed from housing.

Pic shows where I bent it back into place.
