considering trading my 4runner

This has been an issue with myself before I started really modding my 4R, I wanted to trade it in and get a King Ranch F-250; just thought a diesel would be a lot of fun. I have also had 4 cars before the 4R; 1995 F-150 lightning with a Pro-charger, then a 2004 F-150 (hated it), 1998 BMW 540i (lowered, blacked out) this one was fun but kind of got profiled in it, then a 2006 Mustang GT (full exhaust, intake, chip, 100 shot Zex wet nitrous kit, 20" American Racing Razor wheels, Hurst Short Throw and some other miscellaneous things. The 4runner has turned into the one vehicle I have really wanted to keep forever, after I graduate I am going to garage it and make it a true offroad machine. I would suggest keeping it, it's going to run forever and just buy something else when you have the money.
 
Yeah,

after your lift, save your money and get an additional car/truck

I want another prelude, but theres no chance in *ahem* that Im trading my 4runner in for a Prelude, I love them, but not gonna happen.

Ill save my wifes money and when i get a chance, spend it all on a prelude!

Good advice for sure. If the taco will suit you better get one. I guarantee you will LOVE it. Yeah I posted on ttora, wouldnt mind having a taco myself. I dont camp much so less windows to break is appealing lol. No matter what you do it wont be a bad choice. Either will be reliable and you will absolutely love.

Do you love it? If so... do it! I wouldn't, but I don't love those types of Tacomas. Make sure it isn't one of the models that had frame issues and you should be fine.

I think the 4Runner is more rare and should have more value long term, but most car owners don't think that way. They just want something fun that gets them where they want to go and looks cool, and the Tacoma definitely meets those criteria. If I had that Tacoma personally I'd be paying you cash for your 4Runner, but then again, I am a 4Runner fan. It looks like he's taken good care of it for sure, unless he was jumping it on those sand dunes! :)
 
Personally, I'd stick with the 4Runner, if you are planning to have one or the other instead of both.

IMHO, a newer Taco would be better, considering the problems with the rusting frames on the older ones. We just got a 2010 Tacoma Access Cab and I might be driving it as a DD and make the 4Runner my weekend vehicle. Overall I really like the Taco, it seems very capable and it actually has a rear locker, unlike my 4Runner.

I know what you mean about always wanting to drive an actual truck, and the Tacoma satisfies my desire to drive a truck.

Yeah I feel ya. Believe me, if i had the dinero to pick up a newer taco 4x4, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I don't. Jealous of yours!
 
I think you should trade for the tacoma you posted before! Seems like a good deal to me. Has some pretty nice mods on it.

Well I have a gentlemans agreement with the guy, so it looks like in 3 months (when he makes his last payment on it) I will have a new rig!

well luckily all I bought was the springs from you. He gets those. What are people's opinions on the $500 I'd add? Im having second thoughts about whether I should be putting in any extra money, or whether it is a fair trade as is.

I think if you could get away with only $500 you made out alright. Its a year newer low miles and some nice mods too. Also tacoma's typically go for more than 4runners. I say trade. I loved my tacoma, I wish I still had it.

well I was wrong about the tax thing...it seems most states except CA do the equal trade = no tax thing. So itd be $500 plus 10 percent of "fair market value" for tax. So all in all id be looking around $1k for the swap. For that much I could just complete my lift and be stoked on my 4Runner.

It's just my opinion, and you don't know me from Adam. But if I were making the decision, he would have to pay me $2000.00 in addition to the Tacoma, to even consider a trade. Your 4Runner is a much nicer vehicle, IMO.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

That was my orignial thought. it's hard when things like kbb say that my car is worth more (I mean sh*t my 4runner was a 35 thousand dollar car new and that taco was 20), and then I see people saying that tacos hold their value and sell for more. WELL, why are they?
 
So I've decided to keep it. The tax money Id have to pay the dmv for a Taco will go a long way for the lift/brakes for this one. And really, the 4runner is just pretty damn sweet.
